Adam studies the rose for hours, he forgets about lunch, but honestly so have I. I go to the library and began looking through books unconsciously searching for anything about the rose. I find nothing.
When the moon crests the sky I find myself walking through the gardens, stopping to look at the roses or the frozen lake. It's peaceful, the soft breeze whispers through my hair. The cold tints my cheeks.
"It's beautiful." I turn to watch Adam approach, he's dressed for the weather not that he needs to be. I smile, taking in the soft greens of his suit and the blue of his eyes. They shine like the sun on the summer waves of crystal waters. I could drown in them.
"Océana?" I shake my head raising my eyebrows to acknowledge him. "Sorry? Lost myself. What did you say?" I turn back to the lake to hide my furiously burning cheeks. "Why are you out here so late? I went to your room. The clock struck midnight almost an hour ago." I sigh looking back to the castle. Lumière has taken to lighting every candle inside now.
"What does the rose mean? Why are the petals growing back?" Adam leans against the rail beside me, heat radiates off of him. "A curse. Before you came to this castle. An enchantress came in to shelter from the storm, she interrupted a ball being thrown inside at the time. I told her to leave. I didn't think anything of her, she offered a rose to me but I cast her out for her appearance. She cursed me, and the staff. The rose was an hourglass for the curse. When the last petal fell I would remain a beast forever. The staff turned into objects; junk." I studied him. I could see the regret on his face, his own disappointment of his actions.
"How could you break the curse?"
"Love. I had to find love for someone, and receive love from them in return. It didn't work out. She left just before the last petal fell." I shook my head in disgust, she used him, broke his heart and left without a thought. "If you love someone, you take them for who they are, not who they can be or used to be."Adam looked down to me, a new look in his eyes, one I've never seen. "Come on. Let's go to bed, I'm going to bring my stuff tomorrow. Today?" Adam chuckles. "Today." He answers as the clock chimes one distantly. We walk slowly through the snow, the Icy crystals slushing over my boots as in between my toes.
"Why is it winter here? It's still fall in villeneuve." He growls lowly, almost like clearing his throat. "Part of the curse? I never found out myself." I smile as we step into the castle. It's toasty and quiet, the faint sound of Lumière whistling.
"He's enjoying his freedom." I comment as we walk up the stairs. Adam slows down to let me keep up. "Wouldn't you? Being trapped for months as a candle stick?" We step out onto the terrifying walkway between the castle and my room. "Candel-a-bra." I correct with an outrageous French accent.
Adam laughs opening the doors for me. Such a gentleman. Adam walks me to the final set of doors a smile plastering his face. We stop at the French doors of my bedroom. "I'll see you in the morning." I sigh pushing the door open slowly. Adam nods. I stand watching him for a moment. "Well, um. Good morning." I shake my head laughing. "Goodnight Adam." I close the doors in him and walk to the monstrous bed.
I'm asleep the second I hit the pillows.
~~~~~The beast~~~~~~
How can she make me feel this way. She wakes me weak. Standing on the bridge with the moon casting a spotlight on her, she was breathtaking. She's nothing like belle. Where belle was loud and demanding Océana is soft spoken and so innocent. Belle was beautiful but Océana takes my breath away.
"Master? Could she be the one?" Lumière questions following me into the west wing. "There is no one. The curse is finished. We are doomed this way." I growl storming on to the terrace past the cursed rose. "But master. The rose has one petal again. Perhaps the enchantress is giving us a second chance." I shake my head sneering at him. "No. I will not bring her into this. There is no second chance. None! Leave me." Lumière sighs, his candles flickering in sadness before he nods and walks off.
I crouch next to a gargoyle watching the light reflect off the frozen fountain. There is no going back, Océana can not break the curse. She will leave, she will leave me here broken hearted as belle did. There is no second chance; but She could be happy here couldn't she? She has no home to return to. Can she be happy with me?
