Adam and I fall back into a regular routine. I cook, and we eat together or listen to Lumière sing and entertain to the extent of his abilities. I enjoy being around the two of them.
Both of them are hell bent on finding out why the rose has mysteriously begun to regrow petals though.
Today I sit in the high backed chair by the fire place in the library with a book in my lap.
The faerie queen.
To me it seems like an extremely long poem. Nothing like William Shakespeare's works. I turn the page as the library doors are thrown wide. Adam storms in. He paces lost in thought mumbling himself about magic and the enchantress being cruel and confusing.
He grapples for the table pouring himself into the stacks of books scattered carelessly across one of the tables. I don't bother him right now, instead I quietly exit the library seeking out Lumière who is cheerfully whistling while we works on lighting a brand nee batch of candles around the castle.
"Has another petal returned?" I ask following the small golden candelabra. "Oui. The master is working himself up over this strange event. I fear he may turn grey from this much stress." I giggle following him.
"If the rose is regrouping perhaps it's just a cycle, a cruel cycle. The enchantress has made the rose regrow anew to give him hope he can break the curse again." I shake my head fiddling with the end my my braid falling over my shoulders and resting just under my collarbone.
"Perhaps but for now we must remain calm. For the master." I nod as we descend the grand staircase leading towards the dining room. The sound of bustle inside the kitchen catches my attention. "Lumière. Has another staff come back?" He stood listening to the sound as well. "Non madam it is just moi." I nod picking up a non lit candlestick before creeping towards the kitchen. Lumière follow as quietly as possible.
I push the door open cautiously glancing inside. There is nothing out of place, but the stove is on and a kettle is boiling on top. Lumière glances through as well, his body mostly tucked behind the leg of my pants. We step inside, my candle stick held in front of me as a weapon.
We circle the room a few times until Lumière climbs onto the counter. "Madam, we have searched the entire kitchen twice and still nothing. Perhaps we both must rest. We will not hear things after a good nights rest. Bon nuit!" He calls climbing down and walking away quickly. I sigh, he is probably right. I barely slept during my time in isolation. I was to stressed out.
"I always find tea makes problems less stressful. Would you like one deary?" I scream in terror turning quickly to see a kitchen trolley with a tea pot and tea cup sitting on top. I clutch my rapidly beating heart letting out a shake breath.
"I'm sorry dear. Didn't mean to frighten you." The tea pot smiles warmly, motherly. Adam slides into the room, chest heaving. "Oh my!" The tea pot jumps. "You screamed." He takes my face between his paws inspecting it before glancing around the room almost protectively. "The girl is quite alright master. I gave her a small scare." The tea pot defends.
"Ms. Potts!" Adam bends down to her level with a overjoyed smile across his furry face. "What's happened? The petal fell. I accepted the fate of my boy and myself. What did you do?" She scolds. Adam shakes his head. "The rose is regrowing petals. Lumière came first. Is chip with you?" Adam is calm around Ms. Potts. Looks to her with such admiration.
"We're alright master. Chip is quite happy to play in the castle. Who is this?" She looks to me, a smile painted across her face. "Ms. Potts meet Océana. Océana, meet Ms. Potts." I wave meekly. "Oh your beautiful. Would you like a cup of tea deary?" I smile nodding. "That sounds lovely, if it's alright?" Adam shakes with laughter. "Always asking permission even after being offered." He shakes his head again.
I cross my arms. "I do not." I giggle at my attempted seriousness. "You do! I offer you a room and you ask if it is okay. Offer you dinner, same thing. Accept that everything people offer you is alright. Unless in the village, don't talk to strangers." I laugh as a tea cup slides towards me.
"Hello! I'm chip!" The tea cup exclaims happily. I scoop him up holding him level with my face. "Well aren't you adorable." Chip smiles looking to his mother. "I'm adorable!" She smiles lovingly. "Of course you are my boy."
I take a sip of tea looking up at Adam who watches silently. Setting the cup back down I hear the clock strike nine. "Oh deary, so beautiful." She smiles at me. I blush furiously looking down. "Thank you." I turn to Adam who now stands off to the side watching us patiently. "Have you found something about your curse? You seemed frustrated earlier perhaps I can help-" "no." I sigh. He won't let me help, that counts as bringing me into this apparently.
"Fine. Ms. Potts, would you accompany me to my room?" Ms. Potts smiles brightly. "Oh of course. Excuse me master." The cart wheels past him as I walk beside her. "Goodnight Adam." I wave lightly as the door swings shut. I hear ever so faintly.
"Goodnight Oc."
