The stairs are a blur, I barely remember which turns I take or how fast I'm going. Instinct and adrenaline fuel me now.
I've abandoned my shoes somewhere on the stairs opting to to run in my socks, less to weigh me down.
I round the final landing, I can hear Adam and gaston fighting now. I'm so close, I can save him. I can save him. I tell myself over and over throwing my strength into the last stairs.
BANG!
I shriek clutching my ears at the loud sound. A great roar of agony fills the air just after. He shot him. He shot him. I cover my mouth hearing silence that follows Adams pain.
"You can not run beast!" Gaston shouts in the following moments. I let out a relieved sigh. Adam is okay, he's okay. I'm coming. I run up the stairs heading for the the window of the tower. Adam clings to the roof of the farthest towers while Gaston follows from below shouting incoherent things at Adam.
"Adam!" I shriek as he slides down the roof loosing his grip on the shingles. Lighting cracks behind him making me scream as he is illuminated by the light.
"Océana!" He cries in jubilation swinging around the tower to face me. "You came back!" He shouts happily. "I never should have left!" I answer clutching the cold stone on either side of me.
BANG!
Adam falls from the tower onto the landing below with a shout. I scream. Gaston stands on the balcony between myself and Adam. I carelessly jump down my knee giving out but I rise again.
"Gaston!" I shrieked in panic. The first shot still echoes through my ears. "Leave him alone!" I shriek grappling for him. "Oc go!" Adam roars trying to escape my nasty cousin. I shove gaston forcing him to stumble away from Adam. "He's a beast? How could you love a monster?!" He demands, loud enough for Adam to hear. He stands behind Gaston watching me, looking into my eyes, his own full of curiosity and confusion.
"It's easy! I look past his appearance. I look at who he is and see his kindness, I see how much of a heart he has. I don't look at him as a beast but as the person he is! You on the other hand I could see everyday and still never find it in myself to see you as misunderstood or as trying to be kind or even treat a women properly. I could see you everyday and never find it in myself to see you as anything more than a monster." I growl. Gaston seems taken aback by how easy I found it to answer that question. Adam seems to find his strength from my words. Adam breaks a decorative stone hitting gaston with it.
"Océana! Run." Adam demands, a growl ripping from his throat. I run, back across the small bridge and into the balcony of the west wing. I watch Adam overpower gaston, knocking the gun to a lower level of the castle. Adam knocked him down, grabbing his throat.
Oh god. I gasp watching Adam hang gaston over the edge of the tower. "No!" I shriek. He won't be able to live with blood on his hands. Adam meets my frightened gaze over gaston's shoulder. His eyes soften. "No please. Beast please." Gaston pleads. A cold calm falls over Adam. "I am not the beast." He throws gaston across the floor turning to me. I smile. I missed him.
He readies himself to jump the twenty feet between the balcony and the tower. "No!" I shout panic holding my heart. My throats burns. "Its to far!" I yell he shakes his large head and runs. I close my eyes unable to watch Adam make the jump. His claws scrape on the rocks. I fear the worst. Gentle hands pry my own fingers from my eyes. "I thought you weren't coming back." He sighs. "Of course I was. I never wanted to leave. I never will again."
A gun shot cracks through the air. Adam roars stumbling towards the inside of the balcony. I turn to see Gaston stands aiming to fire again.
"Gaston! No!" I sob in horror blocking the second shot. The bullet sinks into my stomach, blood blooming across my abdomen. Blinding pain staggers me. Gaston stares shocked before the bridge underneath him crumbles.
I stumble to Adam, who has collapsed onto the ground. I collapse beside him. Brushing the strands of long hair from his face. "Adam." I whisper clutching my stomach to hold the blood in. I try not to curl in on myself and scream through the pain. "Océana. I'm afraid I'm the one leaving this time." He mumbles running a hand through my hair. "No." I sob, tears spilling down my face. "No. We stay together, forever." I look down watching blood slip between my fingers. Adam sees this and gently cradles me to his side.
"Océana, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He kisses the top of my head. "It's okay. It's okay." I repeat over and over, black clouds my vision. I hold myself closer to Adam, blood begins to puddle under me. Adam goes still, a whisper of words dying at his lips.
"Adam?" He doesn't answer. "Adam?!" I sit up with a gasp leaning over him. My stomach screams in anguish. He's not breathing. "No! No! Adam!" I scream my voice breaks, cradling his face in my palms. My heart seizes, ripping the air from my lungs adding to the pain in my stomach.
I don't care about the blood I'm leaving on his face. "Adam!" I clutch my stomach as the pain paralyses me. I fall over beside him, I take his hand closing my eyes, tears wave down my face. Blood slowly flowing onto the floor around us, no one would ever be able to tell who the blood was coming from.
"I love you." My voice fades, my heart slowing dangerously. "I love you."
I swear someone is standing by the rose, watching as the world swims out of focus. I can't breathe. Painful jolts shake my body, struggling to hold on. My weak and feeble heart thunders in my ears. I can't hold on, the world slips past, darkness finally clouding my vision completely. I let out a strangled choke for Adam. He can not save me now. One final wheezed gasp escapes my lips as I slip away.
But our story doesn't die just yet
