Elusive Memories

Suspicions

Cory woke up due to a doctor shaking him. He sat up and rubbed the tiredness out of his eyes. "Yes?"

The doctor stood back. "Your friend and the mayor requests your presence."

He nodded and went to get dressed when the doctor left. He came out with the same outfit.

He saw them waiting outside the hospital. "Hey Cory!" Nick said to him.

Cory waved. "What do you guys need me for?"

"Well we wanted to show you your house!" Aphmau said excitedly.

    He scratched his head awkwardly. "I forgot about that. So are we going to go?"

    Aphmau nodded. "Let's, also I must tell you some awful news. But let's just show you your house."

    "Maybe it can also make you remember something as well." Nick added.

    He nodded. They led him to a medium sized house and entered it. "Take a look around!" Aphmau encouraged.

    Cory did, he went to the kitchen, living room, bedroom and some of the basement. He came back with a frown and shook his head. "Nothing."

    Nick and the mayor secretly smirked, but they also looked sympathetic. Aphmau coughed. "We are sorry to hear that. But we must tell you this dreadful news."

    That grabbed his attention. "What happened?"

    "Unfortunately we have our own criminals. They have killed a few guards. We have no idea what they want, but you seem to be in danger." She said.

    Cory looked confused. "Why?"

    Nick responded. "They said your name a few times, and we know that can't be a coincidence. You know, with your big accident and know your memory lose it just can't be."

    "So apparently you are valuable to them somehow." Aphmau concluded.

    "Do you think they might be bounty hunters?" Cory guessed. The room started spinning and he leaned on the wall for support.

    "Hey, you okay bud?" Nick asked.

    The dizziness stopped and he could look at his friend clearly. "Another headache." He said standing up straight. Something tugged at the back of his mind but he ignored it.

"That's the thing, we don't know their motives, but we do know that they want something to do with you. So we decided to upgrade our defenses and have a somewhat personal guard for you."

Cory swallowed. "Is that really necessary? I um don't feel really comfortable with someone keeping tabs on me every second."

"No worries, he'll just, like--it's really hard to explain but he will respect your privacy." The mayor stated.

Cory bit his lip. Heavy footsteps sounded from the outside and then the creator of them entered through the door. He had on green armor.

"Cory, this is General Jin." Aphmau introduced.

They both waved. "Hey!" Jin said rather loudly.

"Jin, inside voices." Nick put finger on his fingers.

He looked sheepish. "Sorry. But hey Cory, sorry to hear you got amnesia."

"Thanks. So exactly how will this work?"

"Well it's kinda simple, just say if you feel like you're being watched of stalked." Jin explained.

Cory let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. "Alright."

"Alright! We'll leave you be. Have a nice day Cor!" Aphmau said cheerfully.

They all left Cory's house and Cory was still trying see what happened. Then he realized he forgot to ask what the suspects looked like. Oh well.

He had a strange feeling about well everything. Like everyone and everything was lying. Why? Those people seemed convincing enough. He shook it of. They were trying protect him, he should be grateful.

Then Cory wondered, what if they were the ones lying? Maybe the ones who got rid of his memories in the first place to keep his suspicions low. That could also be the reason why they want to have someone keep tabs on him at all times. Like they just made up an excuse to do that. He made it final, he will never believe anything that anyone will say to him, no matter how convincing they are and sound. At least until he remembers something. Hopefully.

He laughed slightly to himself. He's not as dumb and gullible as they thought.
