Chapter 7

As I got more into school, it went by faster and faster. I kept meeting Kendall after school. I found out he was smart, really smart actually, like the same music as me, and read excessively. One day after school, we were sitting at a lunch table and he looked up at me. “Let’s go somewhere other than the cafeteria.” He suggested.

“Okay, where do you want to go?” I filled with excitement. Finally, something different we could do.

“I know a place. Your drink is on me.” He said generously. We went to his car. I texted my mom I’ll be home late. I’m having a drink with a friend. Sending the text I smiled. “Let’s go.”

We walked into a tiny café. A blonde waitress seated us. I ordered a Sunkist while he ordered coffee. Another thing I found out about Kendall, he loved coffee.

“Thank you for this. It’s nice to do something different for once.” I smiled at him. He returned my smile and started playing with a napkin.

“Anytime, I like spending time with you.” We finished our drinks and he went to pull out his wallet. His face was filled with embarrassment.

“I think I left my wallet at school.” I didn’t have money either. The waitress came for the bill. We looked at each other, fear on our faces. I decided to do something I wouldn’t normally do. I looked at the waitress and put the picture in her mind that we paid the bill with a large tip. It wasn’t often I used my powers against people but I didn’t think I had a choice. I looked at Kendall and stood up from the table.

“We should go.” I said. He looked at me confused. I tried to think of something but all I could think of was…

“I took care of it.” I tried to sound convincing. He shrugged and we left. He dropped me off at home. My mom was waiting at the door and by the expression on her face I could tell she wasn’t happy.

“Hi mom, Sorry I’m late I went out with” She cut me off, arms crossed.

“I know where you were. But I didn’t expect you to use your powers to save you from that situation.” She was mad. How could not know she would know? She could see the future.

“Why did you let me go if you saw this coming?” I mirrored my features to match hers.

“Because I was hoping you would make the right choice. Clearly, I was wrong.” We stared at each other for a moment.

“I’m sorry; I won’t do it next time.” I said apologetically.

“Let’s just eat dinner. We’ll talk about this tomorrow. Until then you go to and from school. No leaving school grounds.” She made a face I knew not to argue with. I silently went to the kitchen and grabbed a pan to cook with. We finished dinner and went to bed.
