Chapter 8

I woke up early and got dressed as fast as I could, trying to avoid my mom. I got to school and stayed close to Diana all day. Then I went to the cafeteria at 3 o’clock, found a table and sat down. As usual, Kendall showed up late. He didn’t bring up last night which I was happy about. And we worked through my Algebra.

“Next week, you can drop the tutor thing if you want.” He said.

I stayed silent. The fact was I really enjoyed these lessons. It's not that not I couldn’t the homework myself, I definitely could. I just like spending time with Kendall. He was nice, funny, and didn't push things.

"Do you want to stop these tutoring sessions?" I finally asked. I hoped he would say no.

"It's not that I want to stop, It's just I’ve tutored you for a while longer than I usually do with others and I think you're smart enough to do this on your own. How many times have you proved my answers wrong?" He was right. I didn't need this anymore. I just wanted to spend time with him.

"Yea, I guess you're right.” I shoved my books into my bag.

"I'll see you around, okay." With that he left. I stayed there a while. Part of me was happy I was independent now, the other part missed Kendall. I wish I could see him again.

Once again Kendall walked into the house and found Vincent waiting for him. His red hair reminded Kendall of a fire burning everything in its path.

"Why have you stopped tutoring the girl, Ken?" Vincent asked. "Did you get board?"

Kendall watched Vincent closely, trying to think of what to tell him. He exhaled the breath he was holding.

"Vincent, I wish to find a different fairy. This one doesn't satisfy me." He lied. The truth was that Vivian satisfied him in every way. He couldn't hurt her ever. He felt very protective of her and wanted to keep Vincent away from her.

On Vincent’s face a smile appeared. He could see a lie when he heard one. He met Kendall's gaze and got close enough that he could hear him breath.

"My dear friend, do you wish to be only a half-vampire for a lifetime? Do you want to never experience immortality?" Kendall didn't know what to say to this. Every half-vampire wanted to be whole. Everyone wanted immortality. Everyone that is, except Kendall. He didn't mind being a half-vampire. It wasn't worth killing an innocent fairy, especially Vivian. Her brown hair that looked soft to the touch, her big brown eyes that sparkled when she looked at him or the smile on her face when she was at her happiest. She was so beautiful especially when she was happy.

"Of course Vincent, I do want those things just as much as you did when you were a half-vampire. I just want a different fairy." Kendall protested. Vincent still didn't believe him. Looking at his friend, he suddenly realized what this was about.

"You're in love with her". This wasn't a question. They both knew that it was the truth. Kendall looked away. Vincent angrily grabbed his arm.

"How could you do this to your own kind? What were you thinking?" Vincent yelled outraged.

"It's not my fault I have feelings. You lost yours when you changed, didn't you, Vincent." He fired back at him.

"I may have lost my humanity, but I still won't let you make these mistakes." Vincent snapped.

"You have no choice over what I do or don't do. This is my life, my choices. Stay out of it." With that he walked out and slammed the door behind him.

Vincent decided to pay Vivian a visit.
