Chapter 16

Kendall and I were sitting next to a tree and asking each other questions.

"What's your favorite color?" He asked.

"Pink." I found out his favorite animals were dogs, he loved movies, and preferred a night at home instead of going out.

"So you're a girly kind of girl. I bet you love shopping and are on the dance team." He teased.

"For your information, I would never join the dance team." I protested.

"Shocker." He said. His voice was full of sarcasm. Then he became serious again and asked another question.” Are you good at hunting?"

"I've never been hunting. I don't want to either." I admitted. I wasn't the most normal American. I've never hunted, fished, or even seen a super bowl. That stuff just doesn't interest me.

"I don't think you would anyway. I mean, going to the bathroom in the forest and all." He stated.

“Do you like to hunt?”

"I don’t with animals no. But even though I'm only half-vampire, I drink human blood." I looked at him, not knowing what to say. This was the one of the first times we talked about half-vampires. But I had a lot of questions. Before I could stop myself they all spilled out into a jumbled mess.

"How often do you drink blood? Are there other half-vampires like you? Were you born this way or did someone change you? How do you not burn in the sunlight? Do you have any special skills?" I was out of breath by the time I finished. He gave me an incredulous look.

"Whoa, that's a lot of questions. But I'll answer them all in time." He said. I didn't mind that he didn't answer them. I knew he would.

"Do you have any questions about fairies?" I looked at him in his blue eyes. I was hoping I could make up for all of the questions I had. I waited for him to think.

"I do, but their more about you then fairies."

"Ask me anything." I said.

"Are you sure? I don't want to get to personal or make you think I'm nosy." I smiled at his politeness.

"Yes, you can ask me anything." I reassured him.

"How does it feel to fly?" He started off small. I smiled and decided to tease him.

"Now you've gone too far." I joked. He chuckled, knowing I was messing around.

"It feels amazing. There is no better feeling." I answered him for real. We kept our conversation about fairies and half-vampires going. When all of a sudden, there was something in the sky coming towards us. It was a missile, just like the one before. I quickly grabbed Kendall's hand and started running. I realized we couldn't out run it. We had to get in the air and out of the target zone. I pulled Kendall to a stop and wrapped my arms around his waist. He looked confused but didn't question me. I flew frantically from the ground. I was getting us both in the air. After a few minutes of flapping rapidly, I got us away from the explosion. I decided to take us to my house. When we got there, I put Kendall down. He studied my face, looking worried. I forced a smile. But I felt dizzy, the world was moving around me.

"We should get inside." Kendall said and reached for my hand. I nodded. A second later, the ground was rushing towards me. "Kendall?" I shouted as my cheek hit the grass. Kendall yelled my name. Before I could respond, everything went black.
