Taking a deep breath, Lexi stuck her key in the lock, jumping as the door swung open before she could turn the key.
'Oh Lex, thank God you came home!'he exclaimed, sweeping her into his arms for a big hug. 'I had visions of you haring off home to Cambridge.'
Lexi rested her head against Jason's neck and sighed. 'I almost did,' she confessed, her fingers stroking where his dark hair lay against the skin of his neck. 'You need a haircut...' she mused, noticing that it was looking longer than usual.
'I know. I'll get it done next week, before we head off to the Continent.' He agreed, inhaling her unique scent and feeling instantly calmer at having here there - back in his arms. 'Well, I'm glad you came back to at least give me the chance to explain about Laura.'
Lexi moved away from Jason, her face falling at the mention of Laura's name. 'Yeah, about her - I think we need to talk. How about I stick the kettle on?'
'No, you take the weight off your feet. I'll make it,' he insisted, feeling slightly nervous as he followed her into the kitchen, flicking on the kettle as she sat down at the kitchen table.
Setting the mugs of tea down on the table along with a plate of chocolate biscuits, he pulled the chair out opposite her and sat down, shooting her a nervous smile. 'I don't really know where to start, Lex.'
'I guess at the beginning, Jay.' She said softly, seeing that Jason was struggling as he cast around in his mind as to what he should say first.
Jason looked down at his mug, blowing softly onto his mint tea to cool it down. Reaching across the table, he took hold of Lexi's hand in his and looked up again so that his eyes met hers. 'Lex, I'm sorry you saw what you did.' Taking a deep breath, he continued in a quiet, even tone. 'I swear to you that there's nothing going on between me and Laura.'
'So why did she follow you out the back to the toilets then?' Lexi asked testily, as she tried desperately to squash the feeling of jealousy which ran through her.
Jason picked up his mug and took a sip of his tea. 'Unfinished business, I guess.'
'In what way?'
'Well, the last time I saw Laura was around Easter last year. After that I was so busy with the album, I didn't reply to her messages like I normally would have done. Then I went on holiday and as you know - the rest is history. I met you.' He gave her a shy smile as he thought back to how they'd met and how he couldn't imagine life without her.
Lexi looked expectantly at him, waiting for him to continue. When he was quiet for a moment as he pondered on how exactly to explain their relationship. Lexi prompted him. 'I take it that it wasn't really a serious relationship then?'
Jason shook his head. 'No. That's the last thing it was. Lex, I'm not proud of the way I treated her - in fact it was abysmal.'
'Why? What did you do?' Lexi asked, curiosity getting the best of her.
'Right, I'll start at the beginning - it's best you know the whole story, luv.' He took another fortifying sip of tea and began. 'I met Laura on the day the band went to Paris to promote The Circus. I was in a relationship at the time, but I wasn't happy and I was thinking of finishing it and I guess my eye was wandering. Laura was one of the fans who was waiting there to try and catch a glimpse of us. When we boarded the train she had the audacity to sneak herself on the train without a ticket and was clever enough to pass herself off as a member of the press who had been invited on-board to accompany us.'
'How the hell did she do that?' Lexi asked, her voice incredulous. She knew normally these type of shindigs where they promoted records, had very tight security.
