Mackenzie's POV

I wake up the next morning dreading going to school. I dreaded everything. I didn't want to work I didn't want to do anything besides stay in bed.

But, I got out anyways and did the usual. Make breakfast for them then head off to the diner. I don't bother to wait for either my mother or sister come down before I leave.

When I pulled up to the diner, I sighed and parked the car. When I walked in I was tackled in hugs.

"Where were you last night?!" Gianna asked.

"I had a bad night. I'd rather not talk about it right now," I say.

"Whatever you need sweetie you know we're here for you Mackenzie," Abby comforted.

"Thanks, I'll get to work," I say.

I started taking orders and serving the food and drinks until I had to go. I really didn't want to leave. I'm too afraid of what's going to happen at school.

I pulled up to Carson's house and he's already waiting outside. He smiled and hops into the car.

"How you doing Mack?" Carson asked.

"I'm alright, I don't want to go," I sighed driving off.

"It's understandable Mack but, Ruby and I got your back. And we'll fight someone if they say something," Carson said.

I laughed and nodded, "I know you will."

He smiled at me and I pulled into the parking lot. Taking a spot toward the front of the school.

I look up at the large building. It's now or never I thought.

-

"I fucking hate today!" I say leaving math with Carson and Ruby.

Everyone's been laughing at me, and making fun of me. Saying some of the stuff I said in my texts.

I've never been more embarrassed and never wanted to cry more in my life. This sucks and I can't do anything about it.

"Don't listen to them Mack," Carson said.

"Ya, just don't worry about it. You have us and that's all you need. Everyone else are just assholes," Ruby said.

I just shrugged and kept my head down as we walked through the hallways. I walk into the cafeteria and we all take our seats.

"Mack seriously take no notice to them," Carson said.

More and more people keep mocking me about the texts and what not. Keep calling me diner girl and everything.

I nodded and kept my head down, picking at my food. The I sense people walk up to the table. I hesitantly look up and see them. They all take a seat in front of us.

"How's it been going?" Maddie asked.

"Fine," I say.

"No it hasn't. Everyone keeps mocking her," Ruby said.

I shot her a look, then turned back rolling my eyes.

"We'll take care of it," Chloe said.

"Why are you trying to be nice? I told you just stop. It's freaking me out. Just go back to hating me, I'm used to it."

"Why do you want us to hate you? We want to make up for everything," Nia said.

"I know. Okay? I know. Just stop I can't take it anymore!" I panic.

I stand up and leave the cafeteria. I walk through the halls.

"Mackenzie!"

I turn and see John. I don't want to face him. Especially after yesterday. He probably wants to mock me or something. Then I started to run. I ran through the halls and out the doors of the school.

I get into my car and drive over to the diner. The one place where I feel at home and safe.

When I walked in everyone was definitely surprised to see me.

"Why aren't you in school?" Abby asked.

"Figured I could make up for last night," I lied.

Abby grabs me and sits me down. Gianna and Cameron sit down with us too.

"What happened sweetie?" Gianna asked.

I sighed. I can't lye to them. They're everything to me. They're more the family than my own. I guess I have to tell them.

"Nadia read the texts between John and I to the entire school and exposed me for being Cinderella," I explained. "I was really embarrassed I left school and went home. Then I found out I got rejected to NYU so I just drove until I ran out of gas. Then Madison and her friends found me, so did Carson and Ruby and ya."

"I'm sorry Mackenzie. Don't listen to them. They're all assholes," Cameron said.

"Well now they're all mocking me," I muttered.

"Like Cam said, they're asshole pay no attention to them," Gianna said.

"Has anything happened with your mother or Madison?" Abby asked.

"No, Madison's trying to be nice and help. But, I know she doesn't mean anything. She's just going to be a bitch to me again," I sighed.

Abby gives me a look and then looks at them. I can tell they're hiding something.

"Kenzie there's something we should tell you, it's about Madison," Cameron said.

"What?"

"She came in yesterday. When you didn't show up, she and her friends said she needed to talk to us," Abby explained.

"They said that they've been thinking and they want to make it up to you for everything they've put you through. Madison said that after you said something about moving away forever made her realized that more," Gianna continued.

"They're lying."

"I don't think so Kenz. They sounded genuine. Your sister had those big innocent eyes she used to have when she was young," Abby stated.

"We honestly don't think she wants to hurt you anymore. Her or her friends," Cameron said.

I nodded and thought. What if they are trying to be nice? Why the sudden change of heart?

Hey guys, sort for the wait. I don't think I need to explain why I didn't update. As you know because I AM BUSY AND HAVE A LIFE.

I use all caps because I know some some people will try me and still ask and I need to make this known because the moment someone says update when I am hella busy. I will actually become the spawn of Satan.

So there you go. The song of the chapter is Now or Never by Halsey.
