Crunch.
I winced with every sound we made, but we didn't exactly have time to take every step with a delicate accuracy to avoid all the little twigs on the ground, instead we were running. I had no clue where we were going, how to even get out of this place, but it seemed like he knew.
He pushed forward faster, and I felt my lungs protest at the increased speed. I wasn't going to last much longer. Yes I always had a daily jog, but never a full on outburst of running for straight miles.
He wasn't even breaking a sweat, and it reminded me of how human I was here. So far, I haven't met another other humans here, and I was beginning to question if I will ever be with my own kind again.
I felt myself slowing down, coughing at my burning lungs. "No more!" I croaked out, taking gulps of air to replenish my lungs, placing my hands on my knees.
He growled at me stopping. "Come on just a little more!"
I felt embarrassed and ashamed that I couldn't go on. This really was my last chance and I couldn't even move forward because of my weak state. I wasn't like them. They were everything superior, and I was here trapped within their webs.
Then he shifted.
It took me by surprise and I tumbled backwards, landing on my butt. I was baffled by his sudden form, but also entranced by his dark, brown fur and gleaming, golden eyes. He was large, larger than any wolf I have seen, probably twice the size if not three.
He nudged me with his muzzle, and I sat there not understanding what he wanted.
He huffed at me confusion, and nudged me again but this time with his side, and that's when I finally interpreted what he was telling me to do.
"You want me to ride you?" I quirked one eyebrow up in disbelief.
He bobbed his head up and down, and I assumed that was the closest thing to a nod.
I stood quickly, but touching his fur not sure exactly how to get on him with him being at my chest level.
I tried grabbing his fur in the tightest, but most carefullest way I possibly could, trudging my leg unsteadily over his back, tiptoeing on my other foot, struggling to get on.
I felt his muzzle push me gently on my butt, giving me the last push I need to get onto his back. I blushed realizing what he just did, and even in his wolf form I could tell he was having that smug expression on his face.
He took one slow stepped forward, and I gripped onto him tightly before he darted off into the woods.

We weren't out of the woods, but I could see something up ahead. My chest tightened wondering if somehow a mod of vampires fished us out, and were ready to take us back to the castle, but he didn't seem to slow down.
If it weren't for me, now hunching over and wrapping my arms around his neck, I would have been flung off ages ago. I knew by the dimming sun that we had to have been at least running for a couple of hours now, well, him running.
Looking once again far into the distance, I realized that it wasn't a mob of hungry vampires, but huts. Tons and tons of huts.
It was a village.
