"Erm, your parents were home last night." We were currently walking the decently long trek to school. I didn't know how fond Phil was of his relationship with his parents, so I was treading on thin ice and choosing my words as carefully as possible. "They seem to be quite the busy type." Was that the right term I needed to stay afloat on top of the ice?

"What'd they want?" Phil basically snarled. I hunched my shoulders slightly, trying to make myself as small as possible. "Did they say anything to you?"

I stuttered out an apology for bringing it up, but obediently answered his questions truthfully.

"You've got nothing to apologize for it's just- just that my parents want me to go into business like they were. They expect us to be this picture perfect family, when we're all but that. Well in my opinion I guess." He sighed shaking his head looking down to the cracked concrete below his feet. "I give them what they want but it's never enough. I get passing grades, and I don't get regularly wasted on alcohol, so I think I'm doing quite well for our age group. But not good enough for them I suppose."

It pained me to see Phil resenting his family. He tried his best, but to his parents It wasn't enough. I knew how awful it felt to have family troubles to say the least.
