Chapter 6

On Friday, Mrs. Oswald posted the cast list outside the drama room, as promised. There were so many drama kids standing around the bulletin board that I had to stand on my tiptoes to see anything. My short stature didn't help my vision at all, but after a few minutes, some of the kids began to clear away so that I could see a few words on the sheet.

Congratulations to the cast of High School Musical, presented by the Spragueville High School Drama Club! We wish all who auditioned the best of luck in their theatrical endeavors!

Troy Bolton - Cody Watson

Gabriella Montez - Nora Gallagher

Sharpay Evans - Leona Klein

Ryan Evans - Jonas Maxwell

That was all I could see of the cast list, but it didn't matter. I had seen all that I needed to, and I could barely keep myself from jumping for joy. I had beaten out Leona for the part of Gabriella, securing my legacy amongst the drama kids of Spragueville in the process.

I spent most of Friday's lunch period celebrating my success, but Dan, Raquel, and Arthur didn't seem to share my excitement. Dan was still mourning his missing hedgehog, and Raquel and Arthur didn't care about musicals as much as I did.

The rest of the day flew by, and before I knew it, I was on the bus home. Arthur and Dan chatted throughout the bus ride, ignoring me, but I didn't care. I was Gabriella, the star of High School Musical. Leona was still going to be in the musical as Sharpay, so I would still have to deal with her during rehearsals, but I had more lines and more opportunities to show off my singing voice.

When I got home, I checked my Twitter account. As expected, just about everyone in drama club had posted their opinion on the cast list.

I'm in the ensemble, but I guess that's okay. I didn't expect much for my first year in the high school theater program :)

Who casted Jonas as Ryan? He's not even a good singer!

I can't believe that Leona Klein didn't end up as Gabriella! She had the best audition out of everyone! #robbed

That moment when you have to audition right after Nora Gallagher. #dramakidproblems #cantsingtosavemylife

It seemed as if Cody and I were the only two people in drama club who hadn't posted a reaction to the cast list. Cody, however, had posted a video and tagged me in it, so I watched it.

"Hey guys," Cody said in the video. He was standing in the middle of his backyard, looking straight into the camera. "First of all, I'd like to congratulate everyone who's going to be participating in High School Musical with me. I'm really excited to work with all of you. Second, Lexi asked me to do the Ice Bucket Challenge, so I guess I'm doing it. Before we get going, I challenge Nora Gallagher to do this. Alright, here it goes!" Cody picked up a huge bucket of ice and dumped it over his head. "I...I guess that wasn't all that bad," Cody said, shivering. "Nora, please do this too so I don't feel like I dumped a bucket of ice over my head for nothing."

I closed the video, grabbed a bucket, filled it with ice, and went out to my backyard. I set the bucket on the ground and began to film myself. "Uh...Cody Watson tagged me for the Ice Bucket Challenge, so I suppose I'll do it," I said. "I would challenge Dan, but I don't think he has a social media account of any kind, so I'm challenging Raquel Simmons instead."

I started to pick up the ice bucket, but Arthur ran outside and darted towards my backyard, wearing his "Alien Hunter" hat. "Nora!" Arthur shouted. "Don't you dare do the Ice Bucket Challenge!"
