Chapter 31

When we arrived at Cerise's house, we were greeted by Mikado and Cordovan. "Mom's not awake yet," Mikado told us.

"Seriously?" Danger said. "I'm not going to let the Ink destroy my planet just because Cerise wanted to sleep in."

"Can you please wake her up then, Mikado?" Tanaquil said.

"Okay!" Mikado exclaimed. "Come on, Cordovan! Let's wake up Mom!" The two of them raced into Cerise's bedroom and started to scream.

A few minutes later, Cerise trudged out of her bedroom in her pajamas to greet us. "Hello everyone," she said. "It's awfully early. Are you sure that you want to get started now?"

"Yes!" Danger exclaimed. "There's no excuse to wait when the whole galaxy is at risk!"

Cerise sighed. "Give me a moment to change into something presentable and make breakfast, and then we'll get started," she said. "Thankfully, the blood is the last step, so we can wait a little bit longer for our blood donors to show up."

Cerise left and returned a few minutes later wearing a long purple gown and a pointed hat. "It's a traditional outfit for Purple creators," she explained. "You guys can do some of the first steps of making the potion, but I'll have to do the rest after breakfast." She gave us a pot and a card with the directions for making the potion.

As it turned out, we couldn't even do the first few steps. Arthur, the only one out of us with any experience in cooking or supernatural occurrences, heated the pingar juice as directed, but Cerise told him that he was doing it all wrong. "You're supposed to stir the juice first," she told him. "Now pour it out and start again."

Arthur started again, but Cerise returned and told him that there was too much pingar juice in the pot. "I thought I measured it correctly!" Arthur exclaimed.

"Clearly, you didn't," Cerise said. "Try again."

On his third attempt, Arthur measured and heated the pingar juice correctly, but when he threw the fruguos in, Cerise walked by. "Am I doing it right this time?" Arthur asked.

Cerise looked into the pot. "Not at all," she said. "You were supposed to wait for the pingar juice to cool, and there was nothing in the instructions that told you to chop the fruguos."

"There was also nothing in the instructions that told me not to chop them," Arthur said.

Cerise shook her head. "I should have never let you touch the potion," she said. "It's too difficult for someone of your skill level."

"I bet the Blue Alliance made this recipe," Arthur said. "It would explain why they made the Ink so hard to destroy."

"It's not specifically for the Ink," Cerise said. "It can be used to destroy the genome of any dark creature."

"Whatever," Arthur said. "The Blue Alliance still could have made it. Maybe it won't destroy the Ink at all."

"It has to destroy the Ink," Danger said. "If it doesn't do the trick, I'll kill that Ink myself."

"I'm fairly certain that this will work," Cerise said. "By the way, breakfast is ready."

Cerise served us a meal that, while it looked absolutely nothing like my dad's blueberry pancakes, somehow tasted exactly the same. I wolfed her meal down, and my friends did the same thing. "This is amazing, Cerise," I told her.

"Thank you, Nora," she said. "I'm glad you like it."

After breakfast, Tolbiac arrived at Cerise's house. He was quickly followed by Hayk. "Hey Nora. Hey Tanaquil," Hayk said when he saw us. "Who are all of your friends?"
