Chapter 17
Three more days passed before we finally approached Fei Lian. As it turned out, Fei Lian was a pale green planet, with several large splotches of blue scattered across the surface. It was larger than Earth, and there were eight moons orbiting the planet. A circle of icy material surrounded the planet, creating a rather impressive ring system.
"Wow, that's neat," Raquel said.
Danger leaned over the dashboard again and looked out the window. "This isn't good," he said. "We're going to have to pass right through the B ring if we want to land in the Hirigarranti Spaceport."
"Couldn't we pass under the ring system?" I said.
"Don't be silly, Nora," Danger said. "If we do that, then we won't land in Hirigarranti, and I contacted them last night to let them know that we were arriving today."
Danger hit a few buttons, and the spaceship sped into Fei Lian's ring system. He navigated the ship right into the thickest ring, passing over several gaps in the rings. "Danger, this is not the wisest course of action," Blaze said as she crawled over the dashboard.
"Shut up, Blaze," Danger said. He continued to steer the Eclipse into the B ring and before long, the spaceship was surrounded by shards of ice and rock.
"Danger, maybe this wasn't the best idea," I said as I floated towards the window. Pieces of Fei Lian's rings were knocking into our already damaged ship, making loud crashing noises and tossing it back and forth. Danger attempted to swerve around the moonlets, but they continued to crash into the Eclipse.
"Is it too late to turn back?" Arthur asked.
"Yes!" Danger shouted, but he still had a maniacal grin on his face. After a few minutes of trying to dart through the rings, Danger used the ship's weaponry to blow up the rocks that were peppering our ship with dents and holes. He managed to destroy a handful of moonlets, but it was no use. The rocks just kept hitting the Eclipse, making it nearly impossible for Danger to fly it.
All of a sudden, a massive moonlet slammed into the side of the Eclipse, breaking the window and throwing the whole ship off course. I screamed as the glass broke and scrambled to grab onto something, but I couldn't get a grip on anything. Even Danger seemed afraid as he slammed onto nearly every button on the dashboard. The oxygen in the Eclipse began to escape through the massive hole in the ship, making it difficult to breathe. I gasped for air as the ship began to fall towards Fei Lian, hitting a few more rocks along the way.
This is it, I thought as I felt myself fall along with the Eclipse. I'm going to die. I never thought that I would die like that, on a distant planet far from my friends and family on Earth. If I didn't suffocate, I would die when the ship crashed onto Fei Lian. None of us would survive something like that. I tried to think of some intelligent last words, but it was nearly impossible to think at that moment. Instead, I grabbed onto Raquel's hand and hoped that our spaceship could somehow beat the odds.
"If I don't survive this...please...tell everyone that I was killed by a very beautiful alien," Arthur gasped. "Also...the Illuminati..."
"Stop wasting your breath," Blaze said.
Arthur nodded as the ship continued to fall. We entered Fei Lian's atmosphere, and the planet's gravity caused us to plummet towards the surface. Danger continued to press buttons on the dashboard, but nothing would help. The controls on the spaceship were completely broken. Thankfully, air started to rush into the ship, ensuring that I would at least be able to breathe during my last few minutes alive.
I closed my eyes as fear took over. I didn't want to die. I was only fifteen, and if I hadn't been stupid enough to agree to go into space with Danger, none of this would have ever happened. I would be comfortable and happy at home instead of preparing for an inevitable death. If only...
