Chapter 8

Rymmie's 2nd date

After the last lesson on Wednesday afternoon, Tammie quickly packed her things.

'In such a hurry for what?" Jenna placed her bag on the table beside Tammie's.

'I have to go to the market.'

'Market?' she frowned. 'For lunch?'

It was fifteen minutes past noon, and since Tammie didn't have any more activities in school, she didn't hesitate heading off for her second date.

'Um yeah, meet my Dad there,' Tammie tried to convince Jenna into buying her excuse.

'Hmm alright,' Jenna bit her lip. 'Do you want a ride? The market's quite far from here, and I'm going in that direction.'

'No, it's alright.' Tammie gave her a smile. 'So where are you going?'

'To speed--' Jenna's eyes grew wide, and she paused. 'I mean, I don't know. I just want to go somewhere new.'

She hurriedly slung her bag over her right shoulder. 'I guess I should be going. I'll see you soon, Tammie!'

Jenna waved at her almost too frantically, then she disappeared out of the back door.

Strange, Tammie thought. Jenna have never acted this weird before.

Jenna had been her classmate seat partner and friend for a year now, and yet Jenna had never behaved any more different than her usual bubbly self.

Today especially, Jenna was acting restless and agitated. Even though she tried to appear upbeat, Tammie could see how her eyes shifted back and forth, like she was looking for something beyond what people could see.

Tammie made a mental note to meet up with her tomorrow afternoon to talk to her.

12.20pm. Tammie had to hurry.

Ryan had told her to meet at the market as soon as possible, and Tammie didn't like making people wait for her.

She changed into a simple blue cotton shirt and black jeans. She drew her hair back in a high ponytail, and let wisps of her hair slide on the sides of her face.

She took one last look at the mirror, satisfied with how she looked.

She caught the bus in time, and a fifteen minutes before one she alighted at the bus stop adjacent to the building.

Upon entering the building, the atrium buzzed with people of every size, walking in a haphazard manner.

She tried looking for Ryan, but there wasn't a need to.

A tall guy in a gray shirt was already standing at the centre of the ground floor, waving to her.

When he saw Tammie, Ryan froze for a moment.

Sure, Tammie looked casual in her outfit, but to Ryan she still stood out from the throng of market-goers.
