Chapter 22

Rymmie's 20th date (Torrential rain)

'Ah-choo!'

Ryan heard a soft sneeze from the back of the music studio. Turning back against the light from the occasional lightning, he shifted his gaze to Tammie sitting on the piano.

Putting up a quiet demeanor, he took out a packet of tissue from his pocket and handed it to here.

'Here,' he said abruptly.

Even in the moonlight, she was radiant, and Ryan hated it. She wore a gray shirt and jeans, similar to his except that the colour of his shirt was black, and he was wearing a jacket of the same shade. Her sleek black hair fell over her face, but her dimples were still visible to his eyes. He simply couldn't turn her down.

They had just put their bags by the wall when grey clouds started looming outside. Curious, they had crept up near the window as the sky darkened followed by the harsh drops of rain pounding against the soundproof glass. The only light illuminating the studio was the small, battery-powered lamp on the grand piano.

'Dad needs to know I'm here,' Tammie bit her lip as she fumbled with her phone. Ryan checked his own, but the screen was black.

'Any updates on your side?' She asked impatiently.

Ryan shrugged. 'My battery died.'

'Argh!' Tammie forcefully set her phone down. 'I can't get any signal!'

Ryan let the silence pass. Then, he cleared his throat.

'Why don't we just do what we're supposed to do today?' He offered.

'I can't,' she whined, 'unless I tell Dad that I'm okay.'

'But what are you going to do?' He replied, his voice rising. This stubornness of hers was ticking him off already. 'The power connection is cut off, all we have to do is wait.'

She didn't respond.

Ryan breathed in deeply, and sat beside her on the black, leather bench.

'Hey, I'm here,' he nudged her shoulder. 'I want to see you smile. Please.'

Tammie looked up to face him. Beneath her glasses were dark, brown eyes staring at his own.

'Yeah,' Slowly, her lips curled into a soft smile Ryan would have missed if he wasn't staring so intently. 'You're right.'

---

Tammie expected to sulk for the rest of the night, but Ryan had forced her to be nice.

Rolling her eyes, she put her mood aside and continued on with their date. She had decided on this date, anyway.
