Chapter 21
'Strong thunderstorm sweeps over Anders tonight,' the screen in front of Louis read. 'Thousands of civilians, vehicles stranded.'
He rubbed his head against his temples. He had just gotten off the bus from Anders, reading the new on his phone while walking towards the five-star Nax hotel in Serang.
Putting his fingers to his lips, he wondered if his daughter was alright. Tammie had told him that she would be out with Ryan for an hour. If she was still downtown, there's a high chance that she's stranded alone with that incredibly fair-skinned boy.
He pushed open the glass door and sat down at the nearest leather chair. Tapping his daughter's number on his phone, he brought it to his ear. The ringing was silenced with a beep.
'I need to get back,' Louis stood up too fast that he knocked over a styrofoam cup filled with hot coffee. Brown espresso flowed across the marble floor.
Hastily, he fished out a packet of tissue paper from his back pocket and began to wipe the mess he made.
'Thank you,' a female voice said, her head bent down.
Louis stood up, and so did the woman. She had skin so white that it shone brighter than the chandelier lights above him.
That's unusual, he thought.
The woman arched her head up to look at him, and immediately his eyes widened.
Because standing in front of him was none other than Gaia Wythe.

Eighteen years ago
Gaia stepped on the front gate of Anders College. Clutching her bright red backpack, she faced the stern-looking bodyguard in front of her.
The lady bodyguard was looking at her from head to toe, trying to find a flaw in her otherwise crumpled school uniform. There were no creases on the fabric when she wore it, but Gaia was rushing to school.
'Any reason why you're late on the first day of school?' The lady stared daggers at her.
Gaia smoothed her medium-length hair back, trying to act casual.
'There was a traffic jam,' she said, clearing her throat. It was a lie. While the students stayed at their makeshift dorms at Yish, Gaia lived in Swisscotts.
