Chapter 18
That afternoon before the rain was like a calm before the storm for Mihi.
He had been keeping contact with the two boys ever since meeting them. Because of Kai and Marc, he began believing in football, and in himself.
A few days ago in school, he stumbled upon his two new friends. Marc towered over him munching on a sandwich, and Kai trotted behind him holding an energy drink.
'Hey, bro!' Marc slapped him on the back. 'How's you and Esther going?'
Mihi shook his head, smiling. 'Nothing, man.'
'Oh, you poor thing,' Marc raised his voice to sound like a girl.
'The best way to get the girl,' Kai took a swig of Redbull, looking as wise as ever, 'is to scare her.'
'How?'
'Don't worry,' Marc draped an arm over his shoulder. 'We got your back.'
'Yeah,' Kai was too short to hang his arm around his shoulder, so he poked Mihi instead.
Mihi sighed. 'You know, I was thinking of using football to get her attention.'
'But I thought you didn't want--' Kai exclaimed.
'I made up my mind,' Mihi shook his head and looked up to face them. 'I want to show her that I can.'
He didn't want to be overshadowed by his fear anymore. It was time to go back to the sport that he loved the most.
For days, he had been practicing with them, and so far there hadn't been any major accidents concerning his head. In fact, Mihi felt huge bursts of energy within him whenever he played soccer, something which he never felt during his football days two years ago.
Now, standing before the field, he was going to execute his plan.
'Melvin!' Mihi turned around to see Esther walking towards him. Her thick, long hair was tied up in a ponytail.
'Why are you staring at me like that?' Esther mused, twirling her blonde locks.
'Ah, nothing,' Mihi shook his head.
She raised her eyebrow, and stepped forward. 'Anyway, why did you take me here?'
He took her hand and led her to the nearly empty bleachers. 'Come on, let's watch the game.'
