Day 3

'Esther, wake up!' Rae's rising voice stirred her from her slumber.

'Go away, I want to sleep,' Esther groaned and turned to the other side.

'But you need to go outside!' She felt Rae's slim arms vigorously shaking her back.

'What is it?' Esther sat upright and faced Rae. Her face was glowing, and her outrageous expression looked as if she had seen her favourite celebrity.

It was then she heard voices outside. She even heard guitar strings being strummed.

'You won't believe what's happening outside,' Rae took Esther's hand and led her outside to the terrace. They were at the second floor, so Esther could see the people downstairs.

She couldn't believe her eyes when she saw Mihi clad in nothing but a white shirt and jeans, with a guitar slung across his shoulder. Behind him, a crowd of students in nightwear gathered to watch him.

He tilted his head up to face Esther's direction.

'Morning,' he gave her a cheeky grin.

'Melvin, what are you doing?' Esther exclaimed.

'Just felt like singing to my favourite person,' he shrugged as the students behind him cheered.

'You are so lucky,' Rae whispered behind her, squeezing her hand tightly.

Esther was gripping onto the railings, her heart thumping wildly in her chest. Many suitors had come to woo her, but never had she felt as special to someone as it did now. It was like finding the complement of your colour, and everything felt right.

'I know I stand in line

Until you think you have the time

To spend an evening with me

And if we go someplace to dance

I know that there's a chance

You won't be leaving with me

Then afterwards we drop into a quiet little place

And have a drink or two

And then I go and spoil it all

By saying something stupid

Like I love you.'

Beside her, Rae was squealing and jumping.

'Ohmygod!!!' She sighed. 'I wish someone could do that to me!'

Mihi put his palm over his lips and blew it out to her. Esther bit her lip, just as she saw Mr Spencer in his black shirt and boxers walking up to the crowd with a broomstick.

'Students, go back to your dorms,' he waved the broomstick in the air, 'enough of this childish lovey-dovey nonsense, move it, people!'

Below her, she saw everyone scurrying back to their rooms. Mihi put his hand over his mouth and mouthed, 'I'll see you later.'

Esther turned back to her roommate, who had retreated back to their room.

'You okay, Rae?'

Rae was breathing heavily, kicking her bunny slippers off her feet and slumping onto the comfortable bed.

'I can't wait for Homecoming later!' Rae shrieked, and covered her petite face with her hands.

Esther laughed, and lay beside her friend.
