Chapter 19

Torrential rain

Mindy had just left the photography shop. She thought of taking the bus home, but she had enough energy to walk back to her dorm.

A cold wind blew past her, and she shuddered.

'Stupid you,' she muttered, pulling her thin cotton shirt to her denim shorts, 'you forgot to bring your jacket.'

Then, the rain started, its drops pounding on her skin.

Mindy needed to find a place to take cover, but as she looked around, she realised that she was in the middle of a wide open field.

She ran as fast as she could to the nearest shelter. Upon reaching a bench, she collapsed.

Mindy waited a few minutes before she could walk again, but her legs were too weak to withstand her weight.

'Dammit,' she sneezed. 'I'm going to get sick.'

She blinked her eyes. The rain had left the place looking foggy, so Mindy couldn't see through her black-orange glasses.

Mindy placed her feet up on the bench, and wrapped her arms around herself, shivering against the strong winds.

Her head throbbed, and she began to feel dizzy. Then, a dark silhouette approached her.

I must be hallucinating.

Mindy stood up to face the figure, but before she could take her first step, she fainted.

---

Mindy woke up with a seatbelt strapped over her.

How did I end up in a car? She thought.

Her head started to ache, and she put her hand on her head to steady herself. She blinked rapidly.

'Oh, you're awake.'

She turned right to find a boy squinting his eyes at the rain, with his hands on the steering wheel. His lopsided glasses were touching his nose, and he wore a cap over his head. He wore a gray jacket over a shirt and jeans. From the number of balisongs on the tabletop behind the steering wheel, she immediately guessed where she was.
