Chapter 27

I stayed at the hospital till 8. My father went to get us something to drink, when Cragen and the crew showed up.

"Harper?" Cragen questioned, and I smiled as I stood.

"Good to see you." I smiled, as I approached him. He and I hugged before Fin came over. I hugged him too, then I sighed.

"How is your mother?" Nick said quickly.

"We haven't been able to see her all night." I spoke, and they all frowned, but then my father came up and stood next to me. He handed me a cup of tea, and I thanked him before we all went silent.

"Um, Elliot, why don't you and Harper go home, and we can stay here and make sure Liv is okay." Cragen spoke, and my father shook his head.

"Cap-" He started, but then he shook his head.

"No, Elliot. Take your pregnant daughter home." He spoke, and my father looked at me.

"Shit, you've been up for a long time." He stated, and I smiled.

"Come on, I'm gonna drive."

As I drove home from the hospital, my father fell asleep in the passenger seat. I went into his favorite cafe before we went home and got him his favorite coffee and doughnut before driving to his house.

"Dad, time to wake up." I breathed, as I gently shook him awake.

"Harper, sorry about getting home late last night." He yawned, before running his hands over his face.

I let out a small sigh. He was so exhausted that he thought this was years ago when I would wake him up and make him breakfast before school.

"Dad, I'm going on 20. Come on, you need a shower and to eat." I spoke, and he looked at me and sighed.

"Sorry about that. How are you feeling?" He asked, and I shrugged.

"Tired, but okay." I smiled.

I handed him the bag and the coffee, and we got out.

As we were walking up the path, the door opened and Sadie, Tyler, and Hazel. They ran straight to my father, and then I saw Lark standing in the door way.

I made my way up the steps and then hugged my husband.

"How were the kids?" I asked, and he shrugged.

"Decent. It was weird taking care of them. I don't know how good I'll be with only Tucker." He spoke, and I shrugged.

"At the moment he is being chill, but if he is anything like either of us, he is gonna be a troublemaker." I smiled, and he laughed. We kissed a few times before going inside all the way. 

I sat on the couch and closed my eyes as I yawned, but before I could even start to fall asleep, my siblings came running in.

"Harper, can you help me with some homework?" Sadie asked, and I opened my eyes and blink a few times to focus my eyes, because with just glasses, it still didn't help all the way.

"Um, when is it due?" I yawned.

"Tomorrow." She stated, and I pushed myself up.

"Alright, lets do this."

I didn't get any sleep till that night, and it was shortly after my siblings went to sleep. My father was at the hospital, and Lark was watching TV. I came out of the kitchen and sat down next to him. He wrapped his arms around me, and within a few moments, I was out.

Lark and I spent the next few days playing house. My father didn't come home unless he needed to shower. He wanted to be right next to my mother's side in case she woke up from her coma. It was nice to spend time with my siblings, but I missed being at home. I was exhausted most of the time, and worried the rest.

I couldn't lose my mother, and these kids couldn't either. I'm out on my own, about to be a mother myself, but Sadie, Tyler, and Hazel are still relaying on our parents, and I don't want them to grow up like I did. Motherless.

"Sissy?" Tyler asked, as I folded laundry on the couch in the living room.

"Yes, Ty?" I replied, and the sweet little boy came over and climbed onto my lap without even asking. I chuckled before kissing the top of his head.

"Where is Mommy?" He questioned and I swallowed hard.

"Mommy is at the hospital." I spoke, and he looked at me with confusion.

"What is a hospital?" he asked, and I smiled softly.

"Do you remember when Mommy and Daddy took you and the girls to that big building to meet Jesse?" I asked, and he nodded.

"Well that is the hospital. It's where sick people go to get better."

"Mommy is sick?!" He cried, before clinging to me. I bit my lip and rubbed his back.

"Tyler, Mommy is in the hospital because she needs rest. She isn't sick. She'll be back here before you know it!" I exclaimed.

"Really?" he sniffed, and I nodded.

"Yes, Ty. Really."

He climbed down after getting the answer he wanted, and ran upstairs to his room. I sighed and ran my hands through my hair.

I hated how I lied to him, but I couldn't deal with him thinking our mother was really sick, and have nightmares about her dying.

"Harper?" Lark asked, and I turned to look at him.

"Hey." I breathed.

"What's wrong?" He asked, and I started to cry.

He made his way over to me and held me close. I cried for a few moments before looking at him.

"I can't lose her, Lark. It feels like I just got her back, and I can't lose her again."

I left the house to get some time to myself, and when I did, as usual, I ran into FUCKING ETHAN.

"Well. Well. Well." Ethan spoke, and I looked over my shoulder at him.

"Go away." I stated, and he came and sat down next to me.

It was in the park we used to go to. We used to have dates here, and I guess he knew I would come here if I was needing time to myself.

"Hey, you look good pregnant." He spoke, and I looked down at my hands.

"Stop it." I replied.

"Okay. Just tell me what is on your mind." He spoke, but I shook my head.

"No. You aren't my husband, or even my friend." I replied, and he ran his hands through his hair.

"Low." He stated, and I sighed.

"Did you hear about my mother almost getting killed?"

"What?" He breathed, and tears started down my cheeks.

"Ethan, you were with me when she came back into my life, and you know how important she is to me." I whispered, and he pulled me into a hug.

I needed one, and I wanted it from Lark, but right now I would take anything.

"Shh. Don't cry. Now, lets discuss this. I don't want to have you leave, and be this upset."
