Watching Lark meet Tucker from the first time was the sweetest thing ever. I always showed Tucker pictures of Lark, telling him that it was his Daddy. And when Tucker saw Lark, my heart skipped a beat because Tucker cuddled closer to Lark than I had ever thought could be possible and Lark started to cry as he cuddled his son close.

I stood back by Lana and she and I wiped at our tears.

"I can't believe that this is really happening." I breathed, and Lana squeezed my shoulder and smiled.

"I can't either."

Lark smiled at me as he rubbed Tucker's back.

"He is so amazing." He breathed, and I walked over and kissed his hair.

"He looks so much like you."

"Why is he so happy to be with me?" He asked.

"He knows who you are." I whispered.

"H-he does?" He breathed.

"Yeah. Every night I show him our wedding picture, and I tell him that you are his Daddy. Something is off with Tucker if I forget to do it, and he won't fall asleep until I do."

"I love you so much, Tucker."

Lana went to the hotel that they were putting us up in a few days after we arrived, and I was staying with Lark in the hospital. He frowned as he looked down at his leg.

"Stupid infection." He breathed, and I frowned.

"You'll get used to it." I replied, and he ran his hand over the bandages that were on his knee. He slammed his hand against the side table, shaking the lamp.

"Baby." I breathed, and he shook his head.

"Tucker is going to be embarrassed of me! I can't run around and do everything all the other fucking fathers can!" He yelled, and I frowned.

"Tucker is going to love you no matter what you can or can't do."

"No he won't! You have no fucking idea what it is like to not have a father, let alone have a father and not have him be able to do anything because he was shot and lost his leg to a fucking bullet!" He screamed, his hatred strong towards me at this moment.

I ran my hands over my pants to stop them from shaking. I looked at him and bit my lip.

"I'm going to go to the hotel. I need to check on Tu-" I started, and he slammed his fist down again, this time sending the lamp to the ground and making it shatter.

"JUST GET OUT!" He cried. I quickly gathered my things and left, as tears rushed down my cheeks.

"Mrs. Thompson!" Some exclaimed, and I turned around to look at Lark's doctor.

"Yeah, Dr. Moss?" I questioned.

"Just give him time." She spoke, and I shrugged.

"It isn't going to help him. He was a super hero, still is one, but now he thinks he is worthless." I breathed, as I wiped the tears from my cheeks.

"Soldiers often feel like that. They fight for there country, and then the way they get paid back is getting hurt, and losing limbs, sight, hearing." She spoke, and I nodded slowly.

"I was hoping that Tucker would help him realize that everything is okay, but he doesn't even want to see him anymore. He is ashamed, but our baby isn't going to remember." I replied, and she sighed.

"We will talk to him. Maybe get another Vet in here and see if he or she can talk some sense into him. But maybe staying away till tomorrow may help. He'll start missing you, and his sister and son, so he'll want you to come back and maybe have a clear head on his shoulders." She replied. I nodded slowly and she squeezed my shoulder before walking away.

I walked towards the elevator, and looked at my phone, noticing  a call from my Mother. I thought for a moment before dialing her number.

"Benson." She yawned as she answer her phone.

"Morning Mom." I replied.

"Harper!" She exclaimed, and I smiled.

"Hey. How are you?" I asked.

"I'm okay. Just tired. It's nice to hear from you. How is Lark?" She questioned, and I bit my lip.

"Um, one moment." I spoke. I got out of the elevator and went outside into the cooler German air. I stood by a tree as I spoke.

"He lost his lower right leg to infection." I breathed slowly.

"What?" She questioned slowly.

"The doctors thought that he was out of the woods when it came to infection, but then he got a fever and he had a bad infection in his leg." I breathed, and she sighed quietly.

"I'm so sorry, baby."

"Mom, he is ashamed of himself." I breathed.

"Why would he be? He is a hero."

"He doesn't think so. I'm scared that I lost the Lark that I love."

"Oh sweetie..." She trailed off, and I started to cry.

I sank down to the ground, and I cried against the tree.

As my mother sat quietly on the other side of the call, I watched as a soldier was walking with the help of a nurse. He had a visible prosthetic leg, and was limping, but he was smiling. He was so damn proud of himself for being able to walk again, and I wanted that for Lark. I wanted him to be proud of himself for learning to walk again, and be thankful that the infection only took his leg and not his life.

"Harper, can I say something, love?"

"Of course." I sniffled.

"Lark is still the same Lark. It might be hidden right now, but it won't be for long. He knows that he wants to be a father to Tucker and a husband to you. He is just scared and upset."

"If he stops fighting, if he just lets everything go and gets depressed, I'll lose him. But more importantly, Tucker will lose his father."

"Baby." She spoke, and I swallowed hard.

"I've got to get back to the hotel. Lana has been watching Tucker today, and I want to give her a break. She wants to get some stuff for Lark that might make him happy, and I'm not supposed to see him until he is a little better."

"Alright. Give Tucker a kiss for me."

" I will. I love you. Thanks for everything, Mom." I breathed.

"I love you too, Harper. I'll be here if you need anything."
