"Grandma! Grandpa!" Tucker squealed, as I carried him into the precinct. My mother was standing outside her office door, while everyone else stood around.
"Oh, well, this is our signal to leave." My mother smiled, as she grabbed my father's hand. She dragged him towards us.
Tucker ran to them once I sat him on his feet. He hugged my mother's legs, while I shifted uncomfortably.
"Harper, what's wrong?" My father asked, and I shrugged.
"Just don't wanna work." I sighed.
"I really wish that you could've finished college and got your degree." My mother frowned, as we headed towards the elevator.
"Yeah, I do too. But it is what it is." I sighed. I ran my hands over the skirt of my waitress outfit for the diner I work at. Since no one else in the city seemed to be hiring.
"So, he still needs a bath. I was going to give one to him before we left home, but then he threw a fit and just didn't want it." I spoke, and my father looked at Tucker and narrowed his eyes.
"Is that true?" he questioned, and Tucker giggled and shook his head.
"No, Grandpa!" He exclaimed.
We got down to the bottom floor and spilled out of the elevator.
My mother grabbed my arm while we walked to the car.
"Hey, what's really wrong?" She asked, and I bit my lip.
"Lark." I sighed.
"What about him?"
"The other night, Tuck had a nightmare about him. And I had to tell him that Lark was his father. I called Lana and she said that she wasn't going to ask Lark about what he wanted to do, because she doesn't want to lose him, but here I am, raising our son and slowly falling apart. I'm only 22, Mom! I'm barely an adult, let alone capable of being a mother!" I exclaimed, and she frowned deeply.
"Love..." She trailed off, and I shook my head.
"I need to get to work. Hopefully I get enough tips because they raised my rent." I frowned.
I walked over to my parent's car and leaned in and kissed Tucker's forehead.
"Be a good boy for them, alright? I'll call on my break and make sure that you are being good. I love you, Tucker."
"I love you too, Momma." He smiled, and I sighed quietly before turning and walking down the road to my car.
I climbed in and watched as my parents drove away. If only I could have something like they have. True love and happiness. But no, I got a shitty marriage that is never ending, and a painful reminder of what happened.

I was in the alley behind the diner, when my phone rang. I reached into my pocket and looked at a number I didn't know. I sighed and answered it.
"Harper Thompson." I answered slowly.
"You still use my last name?" Lark spoke, and I bit my lip.
"You still remember me?" I replied bitterly.
"Hey, don't be like that, Harper. I just wanted to call and talk."
"Well, I'm working. Can this wait, or if I end the call now, you'll never want to talk."
"I'm guessing that your firm isn't busy right now." He sighed.
"I work at a fucking diner, Lark. I had to drop out because I needed to take care of our son. I was kicked out of our house. We may be married, but I'm supporting our son fully, while you just live your life. I'm sure that you don't give a fuck about anyone but Lana, Laura, and yourself. Tucker and I don't matter." I spat.
"Harper, just let me talk to you." He replied slowly, and I frowned deeply.
"About what? Lark? What the hell do you want to talk about?" I questioned quickly.
"About maybe seeing Tucker, and you?" He questioned, and my eyes went wide.
"What?"
"I want to see you two again. Maybe you can come down here for a week or so?" He asked.
"I've got work, Lark. I can't just take a week off. Maybe you can take some time off of being an Uncle and come up here for a change. Amanda might want to see you." I sighed.
"Okay. I'll catch a flight up this weekend." He spoke, and I bit my lip.
"Alright. If you insist." I spoke, before hanging up.
Great. He wants to mess up my perfectly imperfect life.

I sat in the kitchen of my apartment, eating slowly with Tucker, when a knock sounded on my door. I got up and ruffled Tucker's curls, before heading towards the door.
"Oh." I breathed, as I opened the door. I saw Lark standing there. Somehow he must've gotten my address. I didn't want him to know where I lived, because we aren't together.
"Is that the welcome a hero deserves?" He questioned, and I rolled my eyes.
"You haven't been my hero in two years, Lark. Now, do you want to meet-" I started, but then Tucker came into the hallway.
"Momma, I'm still hungry!" He exclaimed, and I turned around and picked him up.
"You are always hungry." I smiled, and he kissed my cheek and looked at Lark.
"Who are you?" He asked, and I let out a small sigh.
"Tuck, this is Lark. He is the man in my picture."
"My Daddy?" Tucker replied slowly, and I nodded. Lark looked at me, his eyes showing how surprised he was that I let Tucker know who his father was.
"Yeah, this is your Daddy. Lark, this is your son, Tucker. I bet he looks different." I spoke, saying the last part with lots of bitterness.
"If you are my Daddy, then why don't you live with us?" Tucker spoke, and I looked at Lark. I couldn't WAIT to see his response.
"I was working down South. I was making money." Lark replied, and Tucker nodded before looking at me.
"Can he eat dinner with us?" He questioned, and I bit my lip as I looked at my 'husband'.
"Are you hungry, Lark? I made macaroni." I spoke, and he nodded.
"I'd love that." Lark smiled, before coming in and shutting the door behind him.
Hopefully this would go good.
