Lark wanted nothing to do with me and Tucker. He only wanted his sister, and it killed me. I sat in the hotel room, taking care of Tucker and making sure that he was getting enough attention. I hated how I was the only one taking care of him, when Lark had already met him and loved him. Tucker loved him too, but I am thankful that he is still so small and won't remember anything that is happening.
The pain. The tears. The hatred.
Lana came back to the hotel late one night, and I was folding the laundry I had to do.
"Hey, what are you still doing up?" Lana asked, and I sighed.
"Tucker spit up a lot today. I had a lot of laundry to do." I replied, and she nodded. She sat next to me and helped fold, while I looked back at Tucker, who was sleeping on his back, his tiny fist under his chin and twitching slightly in his sleep. He was so adorable.
"Harper, maybe you should go back to the states." She spoke, and I eyed her.
"What?"
"He doesn't want to see you. He wants to just see me." She frowned, and I swallowed hard.
"He wants to break up?" I breathed, and she shrugged.
"He just doesn't feel like he is capable of being Tucker's father."
"Oh." I breathed, and I stood and started to put the jumpers into a bag.
"Harper, he'll come around, but for now, you need to go home. College is going to be starting up again soon." She replied, and I frowned deeply.
"Okay. Um, but can you give him something from me?" I questioned, and she nodded.
"Yeah."

Dear my beloved Lark,
I'm sorry about what happened. But I know that you can be a father to Tucker, even though you do not believe it. I'll go home. I'll stay away from you, and you can decide what you want. I'm only trying to be supportive when I come and see you, but since I'm blacklisted from visiting you, I finally have gotten the message.
I love you with all my heart. I truly do. I just wish that you could see that you are still a hero. You have saved countless lives. You have fought for our country, when no one asked you to. You are my hero.
I hope that you come around, because raising our son alone is going to be hard as fuck. Well, I'll be waiting. Probably not in Atlanta, but you will figure out where I'm at in time.
I will always love you,
Harper Thompson

2 Years Later
Lark changed. He really did. He won the Purple Heart Award, and then pretty much fell off the face of the Earth.
I knew he wasn't dead, but as I watch Tucker grow up into a hyper little boy, it killed me. He looked more and more like Lark everyday.
"Momma." A little boy whispered, and I opened my eyes slowly. I looked over and saw Tucker standing, his head barely above the bed. He was holding onto his teddy bear with all his might, and I smiled softly.
"Hey, baby." I smiled. I leaned down and picked up my almost 3 year old and pulled him onto the bed with me. I cuddled him close. He yawned and kissed my cheek.
"Momma, I love you." He whispered, and I smiled.
"I love you too, Tuck. Why aren't you sleeping in your bed anymore?" I questioned, and he cuddled closer to me.
"Because I had a nightmare. It was scary." He whispered, and I kissed his hair gently, before sitting up and pulling him with me. He laid his head against my chest, and I rubbed his back.
"You know that nightmares aren't real, right?"
"Yeah." He spoke, but I knew my little boy's imagination was wild. He believed that Mike and Sulley from Monster's Inc. were going to come out of his closet and bring him into a world where he was hunted.
"What was it about?" I breathed.
"That guy in the picture." He whispered, and I looked down at him with confusion.
"What picture?"
Tucker climbed out of bed and led me from the room, his teddy bear still in his arms and his blanket dragging across the floor.
We stood in front of the mantel, and he pointed at my wedding picture. I bit my lip and sighed.
"The one next to me?" I asked, and he nodded.
I swung him up into my arms and grabbed the picture.
"You don't need to be scared of him. He is a good guy." I spoke quietly.
"Who is he, Momma?"
"That is your Daddy."
"Really?" He asked, and I nodded.
"Yeah. He is a hero."
"Where is he?" He questioned, and I swallowed hard.
"I don't know right now. But I bet he is thinking about you. So since you were thinking about him, maybe you should go to bed."
"For how long?" He questioned, and I smiled.
"A few hours. It's too early." I smiled, and he nodded and laid his head on my shoulder. I took him into his room, and laid him down in his race car bed. I tucked him in and handed him another stuff toy.
"Who is this?" I asked, and he smiled.
"Woody!" He exclaimed, as I held up a stuffed toy of Woody from Toy Story.
"He's gonna protect you, alright? He is a sheriff, which is like a what Grandma and Grandpa are."
"Okay, I think I can sleep now, Momma." He spoke, and I smiled.
"Good. Now, I love you Tuck. I always will." I spoke, before kissing his forehead and leaving the room.

I sat on the fire escape late that night, when Tucker was in bed. I dialed Lana's number, and prayed that she hadn't changed it.
"Hello?" She breathed.
"Lana, it's Harper." I replied.
"Hey. How are you?" She asked, and I smiled softly.
"I'm okay. How are you?"
"Tired. Being a Mom is kicking my ass." She laughed, and I smiled softly.
"How is your daughter? Laura, right?"
"She's great. She loves her..." Then she trailed off.
"How is Lark?" I whispered.
"He's okay. Um, maybe we shouldn't talk."
"Lana, I just wanted to ask you something."
"Oh, okay."
"Does he want to part of Tucker's life?"
"I don't know. I'm sorry, Harper. I don't want to start trouble. My brother and Laura are my only family. I can't lose my brother." She spoke, and I sat there thinking.
What about my husband?
Tucker's father?
What about the other people who need Lark?
"Um, yeah. Okay." I spoke coldly.
"Harper. Try and call him."
"I did. I tried. He doesn't care anymore. He doesn't love me anymore."
"If he doesn't love you anymore, than why didn't he get a divorce from you?"
"Because he doesn't want to contact me!" I cried out, before ending the call. I threw my phone through my window and cried with my head on my legs.
