I just wanted to let you know to keep an eye out for my final Author's Note and Acknowledgements that are going to be posted as a separate chapter after chapter thirty-two. And after that there will be a preview for the second book.
OHH, and heads up this chapter is supposed to be confusing because Raphael's confused.
Chapter Twenty-Six: Raphael not edited whatsoever.
Everything happened in a rush. One moment I was getting probed at and studied, the next thing I know the sound of familiar thundering paws comes blundering into the room. There was only a brief moment of relief before the leader of the group comes stumbling unknowingly onto the cold silver floor. His pained howl filled the room, piercing my ears, and only more followed. They just piled into the room, charging in like angry bulls before attempting to skid to a halt.
None of them managed to stop in time. All of them fumbled onto the deathly silver floor. Anguish was tangible in the air because it completely filled the room. I couldn't keep my eyes open without wincing at the shrill sounds. Each and every one so pained, and voices so familiar.
They were my wolves.
The hardest part about being Alpha was being completely useless as you watched your own walk to their own demise. I wanted to reach or and help them before their bodies began to convulse uncontrollably. There were many dangers to silver and being in your wolf only made you more susceptible to the toxin.
The big sandy coloured wolf began spasming erratically in seizure like jerks of limbs. It took a moment before it clicked that the first wolf falling into the silver clutches was none other than my best man and beta. Cooper. To my dismay I was surprised to find Cooper had staged a failed rescue mission. Nonetheless, his good intentions were not worth risking so many lives.
Cooper's shrieks of despair weren't what caught my attention though. Though my senses were greatly weakened by the silver poisoning I've endured, I could still register the barely there scent of honey and roses; the alluring aroma of Cora was fresh in the air. I struggled even harder against the grueling shackles that bound me, and willed myself to fight. If anything, my fallen soldiers needed me to fight for them more than I needed them to save me.
Panic was quick to course through me as it only took a matter of seconds for my brain to register that my Cora was in grave danger. There were vampires lurking around in every shadowed nook and cranny; and just like the silver, they were an unsuspected threat. Needless to say, I began to use every last ounce of my strength to even attempt to break the chains that kept me in the damned room.
Whilst heaving fruitlessly, another wolf managed to creep deep into my mind. Shocked was an understatement -- I didn't even sense my other wolves and my own Beta before they came barging in. Yet here I was being channeled into the mind of Jackson. Confusion muddled with my mind, and the connection kept zoning in and out from clarity to static silence.
Raphael wake up, his voice penetrated into my swimming thoughts.
What the fuck was he talking about? The pain was very much real, as well as the gruesome sight right before my eyes. As far as I was concerned, I was awake.
He's going into shock, another voice, a more feminine one, wailed.
Quick someone give me the cleansing agent - there's no time to waste, this third voice was wavering.
No time to waste indeed. They needed to get a move on and save Cora now.
We're going to need to surgically remove them, the third voice sounded vaguely familiar. I scoured the entire room and saw no one capable of uttering a simple word. There was only the horrid sight of convulsing, tremoring bodies and monstrosities of half man and wolf piled along the floor.
