A/N: Owen is such a cutie, though this chapter is very much not cute. Please read at your own discretion. There are thoughts that might cause grief to certain people. Whoever chooses to skip this chapter, I hope you feel better in the next one, and I am sorry.
[Owen]
You'd think that the man that claims to enjoy my company would speak to me incessantly after I have actively done up a 'date' scenario. Granted, it's not the most glamorous date I've been on, but it's still a first date. But no, Jameson's still in that awkward wave and smile stage, minus the bit where he smiles and waves, he just stares. Meanwhile I'm over here waiting for him to make a move for his own benefit so I can help his sorry ass out of sexual confusion.
I don't have high hopes for my love life, nor do I really want one but there are always times where my fantasies outweigh reality by a long shot Roman is a prime example of that occurrence, and I'm waiting for the second coming of fantasy. Not even Jesus can save me this time around.
Currently on my boring agenda as a newbie vet, my task is to stitch up a surgery wound of a poor puppy that decided plastic was a fantastic choice of food that evening. It's an easy enough surgery that I can perform on my own, but the head vet is in the same room monitoring my progress. I don't complain at all though, she's just being extra careful. The procedure takes another while to be secure, making sure to put a cone around its head to make sure wound licking isn't a new hobby of the puppy. At least it's the last job of my day before I bolt and head home for some sleep.
After I have packed away my stuff, I take the corner, and of course, I smack into the one person that's been avoiding me like a reverse mosh pit where everyone repels from each other. Jameson is still slightly terrifying, but not nearly as bad as I remembered when he first called me out. The timid quiet Jameson has come and gone, he's now back to that sergeant asshole that he's notorious of.
As I look up though, Jameson only wears a frown but a small smile as well, making for a strange and oddly soul crushing expression. "What's up Jameson?" I ask, clipping on Petra's leash as she yips around Jameson like she always does.
"I... um... I quit the job." He kicks at the floor like a bored teenager with basketball shoes trying to make a squeaky noise that rivals the annoying tinnitus that I get every so often. "I just wanted to let you know." He then leans forward, looking as though he wants to hug me, but eventually steps back. I guess he's still trying to respect my personal boundaries, I've hugged him, but those are under very specific circumstances that are equally hard to replicate.
Quite frankly, I really like Jameson as a person, I think he has this fire in his eyes whenever he is determined, though, I'm not quite sure what fuels his motivation but regardless, he has the drive to do what he likes to do, and that includes pursuing me as some sort of romantic interest, which I am very flattered by. But then again, being with someone like me will get him nowhere. He needs attention and that is something I cannot give because I need attention myself. But that doesn't mean I don't empathise with him to some degree.
"You didn't quit. You got fired." I shift my weight on one leg trying to appear more threatening, of course it doesn't work, but it's the thought that counts. Today is one of the days that I do feel like shit and I want to change that by sleeping so I can distract myself from cutting my arms up. I've been clean for a while now, no need to break that streak for something stupid.
"How did you know?..." I didn't, I knew he is going to get fired at some point because of the significant ruckus he made weeks ago with the first incident that made him speak to me initially, and the head vet, although a nice and kind person, does not forget about her work place mishaps. And quite frankly, we have enough people, Jameson is more or less a liability to her and she's probably looking for a reason to fire him. "Wait! Please don't be mad at me! I didn't mean to lie..."
