"Won't let him taste her tears."

"What's your favorite color?" For the past hour or so, we've been sitting here, Cole giving me questions and I answer them the best I can without being reminded of my long gone family and breaking down about it.

"It's sort of a mix of a pastel blue and purple, you know w-when it's sunset, and the sky turns light as different purples and blues mix together in a collage...it's just beautiful," I say, describing my thoughts. Cole just stares at me, dazed...though I don't know why. The unexplainable feeling from before returns, it feels as if a cage of butterflies has been released and are swarming inside me.

"What?" I ask, and he snaps out of his trance.

"Nothing," he smiles to himself, and it just leaves me in a pit of wonder.

I let it slide and ask a question of my own, "where are you from?"

"New Boston," he says, "do you know where that is, up in Texas?"

I nod my head, I remember learning about the states and capitals very subtly when I was in school, though ever since the accident, I haven't been enrolled in any school program, but have been locked up in a cell and taught briefly from The Owners.

"What about you, where were you born?" I gulp down the memories, my throat suddenly feeling dry.

"Cambridge," I say.

"So you're from Massachusetts?"

I nod, surprised that he knew that. I stare down at my hands, memories of my mother pushing their way back into my mind. Her sparkling hazel eyes and her brunette locks, everything about her comes rushing back to me.

"What is your dream place to visit," he asks, tearing me away from my own thoughts.

I think about this for a little bit, staying silent until one answer came to me. "Cambridge," I mutter.

"You want to visit your home?"

I nod, "why?" He asks, curiosity laced in his tone.

"Because, of the m-memories I have there," I say.

He nods, "makes sense."

My eyes suddenly feel droopy as my mind starts to shut down. I avert my gaze to the outside, the sun now under the tree line and is almost gone. Without thinking, I scoot a foot closer to Cole who doesn't even notice and I lean my head against his shoulder, warmth crowding around my body. It feels as if heat is radiating off of him. The faint aroma of his cologne floods my air as I breathe it in.

Cole flinches by my sudden movement, but relaxes shortly after.

"Good night, Adeline," he whispers in my ear, and before I can respond, my eyelids fall shut, and I welcome in the familiar darkness that haunted me for all of those years, something about this time though, feels different; and it's comforting.

And I like it.

"Hey," I feel someone shake me awake, while whispering to me, "we're almost to Mexico City," Cole says. I sit up from his lap and stare up at him, sleep still lingering within his voice.

"Where are we g-going to go once we g-get there?" I ask, my voice hoarse. I feel my stomach growl within me, and I suddenly feel embarrassed.

Cole chuckles, "I don't know, but we will stay together, just like I promised you we would, yesterday." Memories from yesterday come back the instant those words leave my mind.

"Cole, w-when we have to get off this train, where am I gonna go, what are you gonna do?" I ask, stuttering from my sudden anxiousness to ask this question.

"Addie, we will stay together, I won't leave you, I promise, do you trust me?" He questions, and I nod, for once, I feel safe with someone, and the more days that pass with Cole with me, the more I'm beginning to trust him...and there's a feeling growing inside of me, a feeling I've never felt before.

"Adeline," Cole's dark but soft voice breaks me from my thoughts.

"Yes?" I ask.

"Here," he tosses me a transparent clamshell of dark scarlet colored strawberries. I catch them reluctantly.

"Where did you find these?" I question.

"In one of these crates," he says, as if it's not a big deal, I give him a look of are-you-crazy?

"What?" he asks.

"I can't eat these, they're supposed to be for the market they're going to! I-I can't steal these!" I protest.

Cole playfully rolls his eyes, "I'm sure they won't notice if one container of strawberries is gone," he comes and plops down beside me, taking the strawberries and opening the lid, taking one out and biting into it. Watching him carelessly eat them makes my stomach growl again.

"Come on, you need it more than the market does right now," he says, sliding the container closer to me, urging me to take one. I hesitantly do, gathering the bright green leaves and taking a bite from the bottom. My taste buds tingle as the sweet juices come in contact with my tongue.

"See, it wasn't that hard," Cole jokes, and I just roll my eyes.

"Whatever." Cole just laughs at me, as I take another strawberry, plopping it in my mouth without a care in the world.
