"She's fallen too far; the girl that time forgot."

Cole's POV

I watch as Adeline eats one after the other, reluctantly, occasionally giving my a glance. My smile goes wider when I see that her lips are bright red and so is the skin around them. These past few days I've been with her have been great, Ive gotten to know her a little better and I really like her.

She's kind, and isn't like the other girl's I've met, I know...cliche, but it's true. The more time I spend with her on this train, the more I want to learn about her. I want to learn why her face had cuts and bruises when I first met her, and why she reacted the way she did towards me; and why she was hesitant in trusting me.

It all just is a mystery to my mind that is begging to know more, but I can't ask, I know...because of the way she acts, it's hard for her to express her past and her feelings. The train comes to a stop, the rail metal screeching, making Adeline's eyes dilate.

She stands, her legs shaking as she clings onto the boxes and crates stacked up behind her and I. I stand up along with her, as I see her wipe at her face with her black jacket. My body towers over her small figure as I stand adjacent to her, and gaze out. The train stopped at a loading dock, unloaders standing on the concrete in their uniforms, ready to unload this cargo and be on their way to deliver it. Luckily, Adeline and I are in a car at the far end, so when we jump out, they won't see us.

I grab her small, pale hand, "ready?" I ask.

She nods her head, her backpack now hanging off her shoulder. I step closer to the edge and leap off, Adeline following me suit. We land on the dirty gravel that's scattered everywhere. She stumbles a bit, but regains her balance immediately. I catch the slight pain in her eyes, but it's quickly masked.

"You alright?" I ask, concerned.

She nods, her hair falling around her shoulders as she averts her gaze from me. The skies above are clear, clouds missing from it as the sun beats down on us. With her hand in mine, we stride forward, away from the train that brought us here and closer to the beautiful city of Mexico.

  ***

We pace through the roads, as people pass us. Men, women, and children are dressed in beautiful dresses and shirts full of intricate designs relating to their culture. Bright colors fill the streets as buildings tower over us.

Ahead of us is the beautiful Palacio de Bellas Artes. The dome roof glints under the sun, a beautiful mixture of tiger oranges and lemon yellows shine bright. The stone exterior has different patters and textures, a beautiful sculpture is set on top of the building. It reminds me of the first time I've been here, with my family when I was young.

It was our first family vacation and my father wanted to come visit Mexico City because of all the tourist attractions and beauty within the city. Coming back here without them is a change, because it became a tradition to come here every year, but after what happened, we've quit coming.

"It's beautiful," Adeline's voice from beside me brings me back to reality, and I smile down at her.

"It is," I say, focusing up at it as we walk closer. Dark basil bushes grow within the garden beds that are built in front of the palace. Different shamrock colored leaves grow around the outer edges, creating a ring around the outside.

The streets are bustling with life, all sorts of people with cameras and bags strung around their necks and on their backs. The sun shines bright, causing me to squint. We stride past the crowds of people, pushing and weaving our way through them, her hand still in mine.

"Where are we going?" Adeline asks, once we're out of the large crowds and bustling paths.

"To a hotel that my family and I used to stay in all the time when we stayed here," I say, focusing ahead as I see the sign ahead, the hotel was very close to the place, and at night it had beautiful views of the city below. It's a place I know will bring up memories, but it's also a place I want to share with Adeline.

"Wait a second," Adeline stops in her tracks from behind me. "I don't have any money to afford this!" She says, gesturing her hands forward at the building behind me.

"Calm down, Addie," I say, using the nickname I know she likes that makes her go red every single time I say it, "I have money," I say, pulling out my wallet and shaking it in front of her.

"B-but I need to repay you! I can't take your money like this! It's not fair!" She protests.

I chuckle to myself, "you don't need to worry about repaying me, I promise, I'll be okay. And besides, it's for the both of us," I smile, trying to persuade her which obviously works when she rolls her eyes and lets out a defeated sigh.

"Alright fine," a frown is etched on her lips.

"Hey, turn that frown upside down," I say, placing my fingers on the corners of her mouth and stretching them up, she pulls away and laughs slightly, and might I say...it was beautiful. This is the first time I've heard her laugh in the short amount of time I've known her.

"Come on, lets go inside," I take her hand in mine and lead her inside, her eyes dilate once she takes in the lobby, and I can't help but smile again.
