"She just shuts her ears."

"Walking the streets back to the loading docks of the cargo train, I've never felt so many mixed emotions. I'm head over heels for visiting there, without a doubt, but I'm also afraid. I'm afraid that something might happen. I'm afraid of being reminded of the pain because of my torn family. I'm anxious, but also excited at the same time, and I don't know which one overpowers which.
As we get farther away from bustling streets full of people, the building gradually get smaller. The cargo train leading dock is close to where we were before, so luckily it's not a long walk. As we pass by people, they give us warming smiles, while others stare then look away.
"We're almost there," Cole whispers into my ear. I nod, and stare down at our interlocked fingers, my small hand in his large ones.
Within minutes, we're at the station, a train parked on the tracks as men and women in uniforms load things into the train. The back of the train is being loaded, so Cole leads to way to the front, where they won't notice us getting onto the train. The workers are occupied, so we stride right up to the side of an open cargo car.
Cole takes me by the waist and lifts me up into the car without any struggle and he gets in after. The wood beams creak from under our weight.
"They might come back up here to check everything, so we need to hide away until the train is on it's way, alright?" Cole states, pacing to the back of the train car and I follow suit. We duck behind different crates and boxes that have labels of different places and destinations on them.
My eyes scan the boxes, and stop when I catch one labeled Cambridge, Massachusetts.
"Will there be any stops along the way, at other states?" I ask, curious.
"Yeah, one in Kentucky and the other in Pennsylvania," he answers my question without having to think about his answer, which only makes me wonder how many times he's done this.
We fall silent as we hear voices from outside the train car, talking and barking orders. The piercing whistle sounds and vibrates through the walls. I involuntarily cover my ears as the sound continues for three more blows. Then the train starts moving, the rails screeching as the wheels of the cars move against the metal.
"I think we're good now," I whisper, and Cole nods, standing up. I stand up and stumble a bit as the train takes a turn, but before I could fall Cole catches me.
"How may days will this journey take?" I question.
"Six," Cole says while striding over to the edge and gazing out. I come up from behind him and stand adjacent to him. The scenery whizzes by in a grand mix of colors. The sun rays reflect off the buildings and their windows, causing a glare. The dome of the palace can be seen very faintly, but gradually grows smaller as we get farther away from it.
"Thank you again, for this...for everything you've done for me," I suddenly state, turning to face Cole.
He turns to me and flashes me a smile, his pearly white teeth on display, "You're welcome, thank you for staying with me," he says in a soft tone.
"You're welcome," I say, and he leans down and captures my lips with his, kissing me while holding onto the side of the train car wall. Sparks fly all over my body as my heart beat quickens.
He pulls away and gathers me into his arms, backing away from the edge. We stay within each other's arms, as the world around us just seems to slip away.
