"An angel in disguise."
-—–—–—
As I stride farther into the room, the more my eyes dilate. I've never seen such a place in my life, so it takes a bit for something like this to finally sink in. The walls are a light crimson shade as the furniture is a stained white wood, looking elegant and modern.
Directly opposite of the door is a large balcony, crimson drapes hang from a black metal pole that is placed horizontally on the wall. The drapes are tied back with a rope that has tassels connected to the ends as the beautiful French doors stand from floor to ceiling, the glass spotless and smudge free.
There's a main room, with everything you'd need to live here. A kitchen is set up along the wall behind the door, once you turn the corner of the entryway, there it is. The stainless steel appliances glint under the light. The marble countertops are polished to perfection, to the point where you can see your own reflection. Adjacent to the kitchen area, is a small family room, consisting of one love seat and a elegant king's looking chair positioned in a semi-circle. A mahogany coffee table is set up in the middle as a transparent vase is positioned in the middle, three scarlet colored tulips sprouting, their bright green stems stuck down in the clear water.
"This place is gorgeous," I manage to say, walking over to the double French doors and peer out onto the balcony, and there is a perfect view of the grand palace of Mexico. The sun is now below the buildings, casting a magnificent silhouette over them.
I hear Cole chuckle from behind me, "my favorite part about this whole thing is the view," he says, coming up beside me and gazing out at the beautiful city around us.
I stay silent, my attention captivated and not willing to move off of the sight. Down below, I can faintly see street performers and couples dance, their bodies looking delicate as they move so elegantly to the music. I pivot on my heel to face Cole.
"Thank you so much for this, I need to repay you somehow," I say, gazing up into his midnight blue eyes.
"Adeline, I already told you that you don't need to do that, and besides, having your company is your payment; you spending time with me will be your payment, payment of time," he says, a small graceful smile taking over his lips.
"Thank you," a smile of it's own involuntarily comes over my face, and I suddenly feel warm. Cole takes me into his arms and embraces me sweetly, a cage of butterflies is released into the pit of my stomach and it spreads like a rapid inferno. I feel my cheeks heat up from his sudden action, leaving me dazed when he pulls away...the familiar feeling from before returning.
"You're welcome," he brakes his gaze away from mine as he nervously scratches the back of his neck, a slight pink on his face.
"I-um, am going to go shower, is t-that okay?" I ask, the room suddenly feeling awkward.
"Yeah, that's alright," Cole says, as I step forward, closer to the undiscovered room at the back, the door still shut. I stride toward it, turning the knob and entering. I examine the room, my eyes wide as I take it all in. There's a large, splendid floor-to-ceiling window, the same crimson drapes in this room as they were out in the other part of the hotel room. A king sized bed is set up against the wall opposite of the door, an accent is on the back of the wall of a white single stripe, giving the room character. In the corner, adjacent to the window, is a little reading nook with a lounge chair and a tall lamp.
I turn to see another door, I stride to it, opening the door to reveal the bathroom. The double vanity is to the immediate left of the door, while the glass surrounded shower is to the right. A bath tub is directly in front of me, the silicone surface sparkling under the dimly lit light. Another door is connected to the right side of the tub, which probably leads to the other part of the bathroom.
I search under the cabinets for a towel and finally find one, taking it out and setting it on the marble counter. I peak into the shower and see that there's already a shampoo and conditioner bottle sitting on the small ledge. I undress and step in, the tiles sending a chill up my spine as I step on them. I turn the lever on, water comes spewing out of the faucet, first cold but then turns hot. The water then comes out of the shower head, drenching my hair and body with hot water.
It relaxes my body, but it also causes burns and aches, it brings back the pain I thought was long gone. MY back screams as the water comes in contact with it. I avert my gaze down to see a light rose color run down the drain; my blood from my back.
I turn around, the water no longer beating against my back as I lather up shampoo in my overly greasy hair. I rub it all over my scalp and hair strands, my hair now soapy. I rinse and do the same with the conditioner. Turning off the faucet, I step out and into the steamy bathroom and grab hold of the towel I had set aside, wrapping it around my body and gently drying off. My soaking hair falls like a cascade down my back, and I move it over my shoulder and reluctantly turn around, my back now facing the hazy mirror.
I wipe a small portion of the fog away on the mirror, revealing my figure clearly. I turn around again, and drop the towel slightly, my gaze focused on the long, open, gash that runs down my back from the lashes I got from The Owners. A single traitor tear escapes my eye as the pain returns. Now I finally realize, that the second I'm away from Cole, it all returns. I finally realize that he's like my distraction from reality, the only true friend I have.
The only true person that I trust.
