Chapter 31: I Choose...

Lorelai's P.O.V.

I load my things into my Jeep and start my trip. As I drive through StarsHallow I see Luke in his diner, barking something at Kirk. The sight wrenches my heart a bit and I'm tempted to stop and run into his arms. But instead I push the gas petal harder and as his diner clears from sight, a weight is lifted from my shoulders.

I turn on the radio to find that Concrete Blonde is playing and I begin to dance to the beat, quickly becoming happier as the road becomes longer.

Lane's P.O.V.

I'm woken up by the sudden ring of the phone by my ear. I quickly press the call button so as not to wake the babies. "Hello?" I ask, groggily.

"Lane?" I hear Rory's voice echo in concern.

"Rory? What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"I don't know what to do. I've never felt this hurt before and I don't know what to do." I hear the tears in her tone and my heart melts in sympathy.

"What's going on? What happened?"

"Logan came by. And we had a great time, he made me really happy, but then he wanted me to come back to him and I wasn't ready to make that decision and so he got mad and stormed out."

"Well he is trying really hard to fight for you."

"I know and that just makes me feel worse. He is trying so hard to fight for a girl who can't even make up her mind. Do you know how horrible that is? To be in love with someone who can't decide if she loves you or someone else? That's terrible, I'm so terrible."

"You're not terrible. You're young and confused and that's okay. Do you think I was always sure that Zach was the right person for me? No. There were countless moments when I wasn't sure if I loved him but I stuck it out to find out if I was right or not. Turned out I did actually love him."

"But Lane, I don't know why, but I can't choose. I have tried so hard for days to make a decision, I've made countless pro-con lists. I can't decide between Logan and Jess. I just, I can't" she begins to cry again and my heart hurts for her.

"Do you think that's because neither of them are the right one? That maybe there is someone else out there you will meet that won't make the decision so hard?"

"I have thought about that but, I just, the feeling I have when I'm around them both, I have never had that with anyone and doubt I will again. I just can't explain it. It's just... love."

"Okay, okay I get it. I'll try and help okay? Let's make one big and final pro-con list." I reply in a cheerful voice and I can hear her smile.

"Okay, let's do it."

"I'll get paper and you get some too."

"Okay, give me a second." she leaves the phone but soon returns, leave it to a reporter to always have paper near. I draw a line through the middle of my notebook with a line through each side, leaving my paper sectioned into four rather sloppy segments. I put Jess's name on the top left and Logan's name on the top right.

"Alright, I put Jess on the left and Logan on the right. Which one do you want to start with?" I ask.

"Let's just start on the left with Jess." she says, nervously.

"Okay, pros. He's a book worm." I tell and we both write it down.

"He's handsome." she replies and I smile in humor as I write it down.

"He's a writer, like you."

"He's read all the books I've read."

"He has great taste in music."
