Chapter 43: Holes In Shoes Keep Us Strong
Lorelai's P.O.V.
My phone buzzes but I very much don't want to answer. I reach over slow and lazily, reading the notification with eyes barely open.
"It's Rory, she said her and Logan are going to get some dinner. She says that Lane is asking if we will watch the twins so they can have some alone time." I inform the man next to me.
"I suppose." Chris sighs, clearly overwhelmed with the same lack of motivation to move.
"I guess we better go then."
"No, let's stay here. The babies can watch themselves." I know he's joking and I roll my eyes. As much as I'd love to stay here there are other things that must be done. I pack up the small number of things I brought with us in a beach bag and slide my sandals back on.
"Come on. I'm not watching them alone." I huff and he reluctantly follows.
Too soon we are back at the condo, Lane and Zach sitting in the living room waiting for our arrival.
"Hey Lorelai thank you so much for doing this for us." Lane beams and I smile.
"Of course, honey, it's my pleasure."
"So they just went down for a nap so they should be out for a couple hours. We tried to plan this around their nap time so you won't have to do as much."
"That's sweet but unnecessary, we're happy to help." Chris adds.
"Thank you. So once they wake up it'll be their dinner time. I don't know if Rory told you but her and Logan have gone to a restaurant and we were going to see about this sushi place down town."
"Yeah she told me, that sounds great. Take your time and have fun!"
"We will, thank you again."
They both smile and hastily walk out the door ready to get away from the parental life.
I instantly wish I was back in the warm sun, smelling the salt water. I shake the thoughts before heading to the kitchen to see what is here for those who aren't eating out tonight. The boys will be having milk that Lane already prepared and put in the fridge. They are almost to the stage that they can start to eat real food, which I can't wait for because then I can train more people how to eat like Rory and I.
"What are you thinking for dinner?" Chris asks, reading my thoughts.
"I'm not sure, that's what I was just wondering."
I continue to search through the pantry.
"I don't feel like anything that's here."
"Of course you don't." he laughs in mockery. "There's plenty of food here."
"I know but none of it sounds good."
"Well what do you want then?"
"I don't knooooooooow."
"Yet again I am reminded of your four year old maturity."
"A maturity in which you closely share with me." I smirk.
"Lor, I really do appreciate you coming out here."
"No problem." I brush it off.
"No seriously, you and I both know this isn't just "no problem". It means a lot."
"Anytime." I'm trying to keep this light, I don't want to go all sentimental and emotional right now.
"Where's Luke?"
