Chapter 1: Breakfast

Lorelai's P.O.V.

My blue fuzzy alarm goes off at the time I was supposed to wake up. I, however, press the snooze button. The blue fuzz tickles my fingers and the cold air gives me chills once my flesh leaves the warmth of the ivory comforter. I snuggle back into the blankets letting my head sink deeper into my pillow. I turn over to the other side and with my eyes half open I see the sheets messed up from Luke sleeping there which makes me smile at the thought. I had missed his familiar scent. And though I find it unthinkable to get up as early as he does I like it because I know breakfast is waiting downstairs.

My thoughts wake me up and I throw the warm blankets from my cold body and grab my robe from the bed frame. I open the white door and hold the rail as I walk sleepishly down the stairs, hugging myself so that I could lock in more of the warmth to my body. As I get down stairs I see Paul Anka laying on the bottom step like he always does.

The smell of perfectly cooked bacon immediately fills my nostrils and my stomach growls.

"Okay, where did you hide the coffee?" I ask Luke as I walked into the kitchen and spot him at the stove frying some eggs.

"I told you I stopped doing that because it's hopeless." he replies as he keeps his gaze on the pan.

"It is hopeless. Where did you put it?" I persist, looking under the sink because that's where he hid it last time. He stays silent as I look in all the cabinets then move on to the fridge. Sitting in the very bottom drawer is the bag of coffee. "Nice try!" I shout victoriously.

"How do you always find it? I swear you have a tracking device." he groans as he serves the breakfast onto two plates.

"Why don't you just give up?"

"Because I will not stop until you eat better, you know you are robbing yourself of your years on this Earth when you eat and drink all that crap?" he lectures me but I ignore him and pour the coffee into the maker before pressing the 'Start' button. As soon as it's done I pour the smooth, dark liquid into a cup and sit down at the table with Luke to begin eating.

"How did you sleep?" he asks and I look up at him.

"Good until that awful noise woke me." I smile in annoyance.

"I think that's kinda the point...you know...of an alarm clock."

"Yeah I know, but I still don't like it." I pause and take another sip of coffee. "How did you sleep?"

"So I am just laying there. You know when you are in the state where you are asleep but you are awake just enough to think and relax?"

"Uh huh, sure."

"Well it's a good state to be in. And then the phone rings."

"Oh no not the phone!" I squeal playfully. He, in return, gives me a frown and I gesture for him to continue.

"And guess who it is?"

"Santa Claus!?"

"Kirk.."

"Oh." I slouch in disappointment.

"And do you know what he said?" he asks and I open my mouth to say what I'm thinking. "Don't answer that." he stops me and I pout. "He said that he heard from Caesar to tell me that Taylor hired some guys to repaint his ice cream shop."

"Okaaay." I say, obviously missing the point.

"Well, the "boys" Taylor hired painted my diner too!!"

A loud laugh escapes my mouth. "What color?!"

"'Cotton candy pink'!!"

That makes me chuckle even harder but when I look at him he has a very annoyed frown so I clear my throat and give him a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry. You're right that is awful."

"It is very awful!! So now I have to go down there and talk to Taylor to top it all off!"

"Is he going to pay for it to be repainted?"

"I don't know. That's what I have to "discuss" with him." he shakes his head. "What do you have planned today?"

"Rory is going to call this afternoon and I am going to go shopping with Sookie. It's going to be a total girls day so I won't be home until later."

"Why are you having a girls day?"

"She needs a break from the kids and her and I haven't had a girls day since she was pregnant with Martha so we thought we were due for a day for just us."

"That doesn't make sense, you see eachother almost every day."

"If you were a girl you would understand." I state.

We both finish our breakfast and he cleans up, because he knew I wouldn't do it, before he kisses me goodbye to deal with Taylor and I go upstairs to get ready.
