"All the children and women go with me! The men please go with Travis!" When they look at me with unbothered eyes I sigh. "Well, come on if you want to save your sorry little lives!" That made them move.
They follow me down the halls with the alarms blaring. Wonder how it feels to be a werewolf and have super hearing. Must be hard to stand next to bells at school.
Elle, please focus!
When we reach the basement of the mansion we stop. I push some buttons in a corner and an opening in the wall appears. "Hurry!" I start shoving people in the opening. I hear thudding sounds and people yelling in pain. "Heads up!" I say a little too late.
When everyone is in I follow them. The cold air hits me and I flail around trying to find the switch.
"Hey, that's my nose!" Oops. Must have pressed something else.
I mutter an apology and feel for the switch again. I finally find it and the whole room lights up. My eyes squint from the brightness.
"Okay everyone, get comfy. We're gonna be here for a while, I guess." To prove my point I sit down in a corner and leaned my head on the wall. Some reluctantly followed but some are still rigid. "Suit yourselves," I say and close my eyes.

I wake to a child crying. I look for his mom and see that she, too, is crying. I stand and approach them.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I sit beside the sobbing mother and take the child in my arms. He looked to be only two years old and his mom only around her early thirties.
"My, my mate," she cries out.
I set the little boy down and say, "Everyone remain calm. I'm gonna go up to see what's happening up there." They all nod and resume comforting the hysterical mother.
I leave the room and run with my head spinning. What's going on? I thought there's only one rogue. Something's off.
Once I step out of the double doors of the mansion I smell blood. My face scrunches up in disgust. I've never really liked it ever since.
I feel a pang of pain when I see werewolves lying on the ground lifeless. But where are the others?
I sprint to the side of the mansion and see that this is where the action is. I see Hunter in his wolf form only barely fending off two wolves. I don't think and wrestle one of the wolves down.
I punch him in the snout and whip out a knife I keep in my pocket. "Shut up or die." I hold the knife out. He throws me off him and I fall on my face. The wolf lunges at Hunter who has his back turned to him.
"No!" I yell and throw my knife at the wolf. It hits him in the back and he freezes to the spot. At the same time Hunter finishes the other wolf and he turns to find a wolf semi-kneeling. He sees the knife and he bites the wolf's neck. I close my eyes at the gory scene.
Hunter looks at me and gestures to the knife. He knows I shouldn't be here but I am, and he knows he can't do anything to stop it. I pull the knife out of the wolf's back and follow him.
Around the back of the mansion we see a couple being attacked by a group of wolves. But that's not just any couple, that's Will and Layla!
"Will!" I shout and he turns to me, surprise evident on his face. But just then, a wolf chooses that moment to lunge at him and I yell, "Look out!"
Will turns back but the damage is done. Layla lies on the ground coughing blood. Yes, she saved him. Layla took the blow that was meant for Will.
Hunter goes ballistic and literally mauls everything that comes near Will and Layla. I do my part, slashing at whoever dares to approach. Hunter howls and I hop on his back.
"Layla, wake up. Wake up Layla please," Will pleads. "Don't leave me."
"I love you Will, always know that." Layla smiles and her eyes slowly close. She drops Will's hand and I feel my eyes water.
Hunter puts me down and I run over to kneel next to Layla. Across from me is a hysterical Will.
"No Layla, don't close your eyes! I linked the pack doctor, you'll be fine! Layla please!" He tries to wake her by shaking her. "Layla! Layla what about us?"
I've never really seen Will sad. He's the kind of guy who smiles as if he's on a toothpaste commercial 24/7. But looking at him now... No words could describe him. His face is full of pain and tears are streaming down it. I feel his grief coming out in waves and spreading throughout the area. His hands are holding Layla's face which is ash-gray. The strange thing is, she's smiling. She must be happy wherever she is. But Will looks like he could murder any second. I look at his beautiful chocolate-brown eyes and see grief in them under all the tears.
Will howls, a heartbreaking howl. I watch him as he kisses Layla and takes her in his arms, cradling her, as if she's only sleeping.
"Will," I start to say but he doesn't notice me. He's blocked out the world.
I hear Hunter whine and lie down beside me. I lean on him and we grieve along with Will.
~•~
"Will, don't blame yourself," Travis pats him on the back.
"I was behind her. I could have saved her," Will says absentmindedly. He's been like this for a while now.
He keeps muttering stuff about how it's his fault. But I feel guilty. If I hadn't called him then he would have seen the wolf and Layla would still be here.
"I'm so sorry Will," I whisper and a tear escapes my eye.
