Chapter Eight

I wake up and wish I could stay in my bed. I'm not only humiliated by what happened yesterday, but also... heartbroken? Its been a while since I've felt heartbreak. I wasn't heartbroken when me and Scott ended. Scott would be a good friend, but our relationship wasn't strong enough to break my heart. The last time I was heartbroken was when Tyler said: "I saw Gwen and Duncan kissing in the bathroom!" And I knew it was true. That was the most recent time my heart was broken. It was also the only time my heart has been broken. The last time I've felt the feeling of heartbreak though was when Duncan got arrested during All Stars. I so badly wanted him to say: "Have fun with a peanut butter less life!" So I could say: "Have fun in prison." But he didn't say anything. Not to me, anyways. And even if he did, it wouldn't be the same. Because I wasn't heartbroken that he didn't say that. I was heartbroken because our relationship wasn't at a point where he could say that. Because our relationship was at a point where even if he did say that, I would just glare and tell him to shut up. Because I knew it was over. The trust was just broken, gone. Anyways, I need to stop being like this. I need to be strong and kick butt. I need to focus on the game, not on moping around and being all sad. I need to take my mind off him. That JERK! One second he says he likes me but then when we're in front of Gwen he claims to like her?! I take a deep breath and get ready. As I'm walking to the mess hall from the girls bathroom where I brushed my teeth, I hear exactly what I DO NOT want to darn hear. "Princess! We need to talk!" I pretend not to hear anything. So he taps me on the shoulder. "Princess! Its important!" "You don't have the right to call me that! Shut up and go away! Haven't you screwed things up enough already?" I spit, anger filling my body. How can he even thing he can TALK to me! "Listen, about what I said yesterday, it was because I needed Gwen to think I still liked her so I could use it to the teams advantage! I was gonna tell you but I knew you needed alone time after the challenge!" He says. I look him straight in the eye. "So you could use it to the teams advantage. So you can USE HER. Because your really good at that. Your really good at using girls. Well guess what? I'm not a tool. And I'm done being used. But I'm sure you can go use Gwen. She'd make a really good tool." I say, and immediately feel bad for dissing Gwen so bad. I mean, I do hate her, but that was a little over the top. He stares at me for a second then mumbles "kay" and walks away. I sit at the spot the farthest away from him as possible at breakfast. "Okay campers! Todays challenge is gonna be in the lake, so meet me at the dock when your done eating." Says Chris. I eat and we all go to the dock and stand in front of Chris and Chef. "Todays challenge is simple but hard. Each team will be on either side of this volley ball net." He says, signaling to a volleyball net that is in the lake. There are nets hung on poles around each half. "The nets around the sides are the bounderies, so its impossible to cross the nets since you'll just crash into the net. The Killer Bass will rotate people since the Screaming Gophers have less people. Your basically playing volleyball, but its a little bit different. You will be throwing one of your TEAMMATES over the net at the other team. If they crash into anyone, that person is out. The first team to get seven outs loses, since the Screaming Gophers only have seven players. Each time someone gets out, the Killer Bass will rotate people. Now get in the lake. Also, I forgot to mention, you will have to stay afloat using just your body, so have fun with that. And don't bother getting into your swimsuits, no one cares if you get wet." Chris says. Jerk. We go under the net onto our side. I move my arms and feet to stay afloat. "Screaming Gophers go first!" Yells Chris. We choose to have Sadie and Katie sit out for now. they sit on the dock to watch until they get called out to play. "OKAY GUYS GET READY TO DODGE WHOEVER THEY THROW!" Yells Eva. We watch as they struggle to pick up Gwen, but they are having a very hard time because its hard to throw someone in the water when your feet can't touch. They finally get a good hold and sloppily shove her up and over the net, but all we have to do is swim backwards a little bit since she barley even makes it over the net. She surfaces and swims back to her side. "Alright team AWESOME who are we throwing?" Ask Geoff. "How about Bridgette? She's not super heavy so it won't be super hard to throw her." Suggests Eva. "I'm cool with that!" Says Bridgette. "I have an idea! How about we all go underwater and push up and over from there? I know it will shove us down, but it will also push her up." I say. Everyone mutters in agreement. Bridgette goes into a back float and we shoot her with all of our strength. I resurface as quick as possible. I see Noah try to move back but he's not fast enough and she smacks down right on his head. He goes under. "Your OUT!" Yells Chris, and Noah swims to sit on the dock. Bridgette comes back. "It hurt to crash into him, but yay we got a point!" Says Bridgette. We all high five each other. Okay, rotate!" Yells Chris. Bridgette goes to take a break and Katie switches with her. I see the Screaming Gophers discussing what to do next. I see Trent pick up Cody then chuck him at us. I didn't know that Trent was strong, but I guess he is cause Cody goes flying, and falls right on top of Tyler, who was attempting to get out of the way but wasn't quick enough. He goes and sits on the dock. Sadie switches with Geoff, who wants to check on Bridgette. "Okay, copying isn't against the rules, so we're copying the other team! I'm throwing Katie!" Says Eva, and throws her with all her force. Katie bounces off the other teams net and lands right on top of Leshawna as she tries to swim away. "OUT!" Yells Chris, and Leshawna goes to sit by Noah. Their turn. I see that their just gonna have Trent throw Cody again, but this time we're prepared. We all dodge and Cody smacks on the water. It looks pretty painful. Duncan cracks up, causing Geoff and DJ to laugh too. "Why is other peoples pain funny too you guys? Come on Geoff, your better than this!" Says Bridgette. "Sorry Bridge." Says Geoff, and they kiss. Cody retreats to his side, with red skin from the smack. Our turn. "DJ! Your really strong. Can you throw someone?" Asks Eva. "Yeah, how about I throw you, so you can try to hit someone." Says DJ. "Okay." Says Eva... blushing? OMG. Does SHE like HIM?! Oh my gosh! The brick house with a heart and the anger management girl? I guess opposites attract, right? And sometimes it works. But sometimes it ends. Badly. Ah! I need to stop thinking about that! Stupid me! Stupid Duncan! Jerkface! DJ picks up Eva and chucks her over the net. She slams into Heather, who screams. "Freak." She mutters and she swims to the dock to sit with the other people who are out. "Okay! Time for the next part of the challenge! I know I didn't say there would be a next part, but surprises are always fun, right? Also, the people who are out will STAY OUT!" Says Chris. Well, at least the only person out is Tyler, he's useless. (Authors note: I like Tyler, and all of this is in Courtney's point of view, so I have to try to think like her. So just so you know, Courtney's opinions don't reflect on mine. I agree with some of her opinions, but I'm not reflecting her opinions off mine.) "Get out of the water!" Chris says. We all swim out and stand in front of Chris. "The next challenge is ARM WRESTING! Basically, you will pair yourselves up and arm wrestle, and if you lose your out!" Says Chris. "How is this related to the last challenge?" Asks Gwen. "Its not!" Says Chris, grinning. "I can arm wrestle Eva!" Says Trent. Yes, that's an automatic win for us! They sit down so they can have their arms on a surface and hold hands. "One, two, three." Says Trent, and Eva wins with no struggle at all. "YES! That was too easy!" Yells Eva. Trent goes to sit with Heather, Noah, Leshawna and Tyler who are sitting on the ground watching the challenge. "I can arm wrestle Duncan!" Says Cody. Duncan cracks up. "Let me see you try!" He says, still laughing. I stifle a giggle. How can he even think he has any chance at beating Duncan? Duncan wins, as expected, but it does take a surprisingly long fifteen seconds. "Oh, Izzy wants to fight Sadie!" Says Izzy, and she wins. Sadie goes to sit with the losers. "NOOOO Sadie!" Says Katie. "Yo shrimp imma fight you Katie!" Says Leshawna, and wins. "Yay I get to sit with Sadie!" Says Katie. "That's bad, stupid!" Says Eva. "I'm fighting Bridgette since we're a good match!" Says Gwen, and her and Bridgette have a long intense battle, which Gwen wins in the end. "Okay! Its three against five, but the Screaming Gophers still have a chance. If you haven't caught on, today we're doing a bunch of mini challenges. The next mini challenge is too stick your hand up an angry bee wasp hive! If you don't do it, your out!" Says Chris. He. Is. EVIL. "Chris, you are the worst!" I say. "I know!" He says. We walk over to a tree that has a wasp hive on it. Izzy sticks her hand in and out with no hesitation. "Oooh that feels cool! Izzy likes." Says Izzy. That girl is crazy! Eva goes next, and doesn't even flinch. I guess there are advantages to being tough. Both of their hands are swollen. I SO do NOT want to do this. And plus, if we lose, I can vote for Duncan! But I guess winning is better. I am NOT disturbing the poor little wasps!" Says DJ. "SERIOSLY DJ? No one cares about the stupid wasps!" I yell, and he hangs his head and goes with the losers. "Leshawna is NOT doin dis!" Yells Leshawna, then goes and sits with the losers. "I guess everyone is counting on me and Izzy." Says Gwen, sounds very worried. Then she sticks her hand up and down the bee hive. "OUCH!" She yells, looking at her swollen hand. Geoff goes next, and screams at the top of his lungs. "Dude! That was so NOT awesome!" Says Geoff. Duncan does it and I can see that he is trying not to scream. I guess its my turn. I take a deep breath. I look at everyone's swollen hands. I need to do this. I need to show everyone that Courtney Barlow is a WINNER! I stick my hand in the hive then pull it out as quickly as possible as a scream at the top of my lungs. I feel big strong arms wrap around me. "Its okay." He says. I shove him off. "Don't touch me Duncan!" I say. "HAHA next challenge! I have a feeling this one will get a lot of people out. You have to collect poop from all the forest and then smear it all over yourself! If you are not covered in poop you lose!" Says Chris. I go to sit with the losers. There is no way I am covering myself in poop. Everyone else does it. They all claim "its just poop." And I'm over here like just poop? JUST poop? "That got rid of less of you then I thought it would. I guess we have to do even something even HARDER. You all have to spit in a bowl, then you all have to take a sip of the spit!" Says Chris, grinning brightly. People react with things like "ewww" and "that's nasty!" Gwen and Eva join me at the loser bench. "That's like, a French kiss but worse, eww!" Says Eva, and I nod in agreement. Geoff, Duncan and Izzy drink each others spit. Disgusting. Now its only two against one, and Izzy is on fire. The Screaming Gophers might win! "That is SO GROSS! The next challenge is to get covered in fire ants for three minutes! If you jump in the water to save yourself, your out!" Says Chris. Duncan jumps in screaming after one minute. Geoff does the same after 30 seconds. Izzy survives. "The Screaming Gophers win! Killer Bass, meet me at the elimination ceremony." Says Chris.

*At the elimination ceremony* "If you do not receive a marshmallow, your out, and can never come back, EVER." Says Chris. I vote for Duncan. I can't have him talking to me day after day. I just can't. "The following people are safe: Geoff. DJ. Eva. Courtney. Sadie. Bridgette. Katie. Duncan, people are pissed off at you for being a jerk. Tyler, you have not been very useful. The last marshmallow goes to...

Duncan! Tyler, your out, and you can never come back. EVER." Tyler sulks to the boat of losers. How will I cope with Duncan? Will I get support? Am I ever gonna investigate Trent and Gwen, or am I just gonna keep saying I will and then not doing it? What brutal challenge will we do next? Find out next time on Total. Drama. Island 2.0!
