"Are you sure you want me to leave? I can stay in case you want to leave." Erik continues. "I'll be your get away driver."
We've been parked in front of Hendrick Motorsports for at least 5 minutes now and all Erik has done was question if I will be fine with him leaving. But he doesn't want to leave in case it gets so bad that I want to leave like last night.
"Erik I promise, if something happens Will, Kasey, and Dale are all here. They will take care of me. And I'm an adult I can take care of myself as well."
"I guess." Erik finally gives in.
I hug him good bye and instruct him to come over for supper tonight, but to mostly just bring my shopping bags, from our little shopping spree, that litter the back of his vehicle.
I walk into the shop and see the receptionist Stella at her desk. She was a small 30 year old with blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Good Afternoon Bryn. I thought you were out for the day?" She asks looking up from her computer.
"Yes I was out for the morning and then I was needed, you now these guys can't do anything without me. Anyway a morning in bed has made me feel much better." I smile.
"Well if your looking for the guys they should all be in their shops. And Mr. Hendrick just left for a meeting with Nascar."
I thank her and walk down the hallway towards the shop. A lot of construction and renovation has been happening lately. I can't wait til it's all done and there's more space and no more messes. I look for Chase in a few of the rooms on my way to the shop but there's no sign of him. When I get to the shop doors I look in to find Chase looking up at the remains of some of his cars from previous races.
"I was told I'd find you here." I smile walking in the shop.
"Yeah I was thinking about cleaning the shop. Well actually I was told to clean the shop."
When he said that all I could think about was him taking down the remains of the cars and getting rid of them. They may not seem important but they are to me and they were to Chase. Sometimes I'd take a sharpie and write in the car. Sometimes a simple 'you rock' and even sometimes 'don't let the bad races make this one a bad one as well'. It was something I did when I realized Chase gave himself a hard time for all of his bad races.
"What were you think about doing?"
"I was going to take some of the remains and put them in my 'man cave' as you would call it. Alan said we needed to clean up the shops and I don't want to get rid of any of them." He looks at me. "There's to many memories with all of them I can't get rid of them."
I smile at him and sit in the chair next to the counters on the wall. He continues to look at the walls and his mouth is moving like he can read what everyone says.
"Ok sorry, I was trying to figure out what ones I want to bring and what ones I want to keep. But maybe we can go somewhere else to talk."
I bite my lip. I promised Erik that I'd stay here in case I didn't want to deal with Chase so I'd have the three guys as an escape. Or if Chase dropped some big bomb I could leave. But it wouldn't hurt to go somewhere else.
"Yeah that's fine." Chase grabs his phone on the counter near me and offers his hand to help me up.
"I don't want to sound rude but your baby bump is really showing today. It's huge actually." Chase chuckles.
"Yeah it's only been 20 weeks and I feel huge." I chuckle as well.
Chase leads us out to his truck and he helps me in again. He hops into the drivers seat and reverses out of the lot.
"So when's you next appointment? I was hoping I could come again." Chase asks excitedly.
"Well my next appointment is actually Tuesday. And yes you can come."
"Cool, thanks. Just a check up on the baby?"
"Yes that and we find out the gender."
We drive for a bit and stop for Milkshakes. We always loved driving around back roads and drinking Milkshakes.
We drive down some roads talking about random little things before we come to a clearing and Chase pulls over and parks his truck.
"So you're ok if I finish what I was saying last night?" Chase turns to me.
"Of course."
"Like I said I got mad at myself. As you know I give myself a hard time over anything."
"Yeah that's true. We were trying to work on that." I slightly laugh.
"Bryn I haven't gotten over you. How could I? I'm pretty sure I've loved you since we first met. You just make me a better person. You tried to help me with every little flaw I hated about myself. You probably don't want to hear this but I still love you."
Pause.
What did he just say?
I'm pretty sure he just said he still loved me.
Well tell him you still love him.
I can't.
I can't just let him know that.
He broke my heart.
I can't just let him back in that easy.
"Chase...."
"I know I just dropped a bomb on you and I just needed you to know."
Form words Bryn.
Tell him you love him.
Or tell him that you don't want someone who broke your heart, back.
"Chase I can't just expect everything to go back to normal after you tell me you still love me and explain why we got a divorce."
"Please let me try to work this out with you. Let me help with Ava and the new baby. Let me try to be the husband you fell in love with. Let me help you til death. We can work this out I'm better I've been getting help. But I need your help. I love you and only you. When I saw you with John-Hunter that day you were in the hospital I was crushed my world came crashing down. I've never loved someone like I've loved you. Please let me back in I'll gain your trust and love back."
"Chase it's not that I don't love you, I still do. It's just not easy to regain trust. I thought we were perfect and then one day comes and your making me sign divorce papers."
"Then let me work towards regaining my trust again. Please I want to be part of your life, Ava's life, and the babies life. I want you to be part of my life." Chase begs.
"Well I guess if you want to be part of my life again then you should know that it's not just a baby."
"What do you mean?"
"I'm carrying twins." I mumble.
