Your POV:
This whole week was great. Work went well and not to mention I'd been spending extra time with Grayson.
I'd go to his house and watch a movie with him and Natalie and order in a pizza or Chinese takeout and of course we went to that movie Tuesday night.
The simplest of things he'd plan for us always seemed to be the greatest. I got to know him and he got to know me. Needless to say I'm starting to feel more strongly towards him.
I mean that's kind of silly isn't it? I mean we've only really been dating for a week and I'm not even sure if you'd call it dating. I doubt he's even thought this much about me or us.
I grab an apple off my counter and bite into it as I grab my things. I was in a bit of a rush because I woke up a little later and I like to get to work early to prepare things.
The whole ride to work I was eating my apple trying to multitask. As I pulled into the school parking lot my phone buzzed.
Grayson- have a good day at work beautiful.
It was a simple text but it put a huge smile on my face.
You- you too :)
I shut my car door, swinging my purse over my shoulder with my keys in hand. I trudge all the way up to the school doors across the large parking lot.
As soon as I opened the school doors I was greeted by one of the janitors as he was just finishing waxing the floors. I waved at him as I made my way too my room.
I unlocked my room and sat my things down on my desk. Just as I was getting situated there was a small knock on my open door. My have shot up to the door to reveal my boss, the principal. I immediately shot him a smile.
"I'd like to see you in my office please." He said as he began to back away from the door. My eyebrows furrowed. What could this be about? This better be quick because the kids should be here soon.
I followed behind my boss as we both made our way to his office. The same janitor I saw walking in stared at us as we walked into the office.
My boss took his seat behind his desk and I sat in the chair in front of his desk like all the kids did when they got into serious trouble. Was I in serious trouble?
My boss intertwined his fingers and sat them on top of his desk. I wish he'd just get on with this already. I'm dying to know why I'm here.
"We've had a complaint about favoritism in your class." He said looking me in the eyes.
"What do you mean favoritism?" I ask completely confused.
"Like do you grade other students different than others because you like them more?" He asked trying to pry the truth out of me.
"No why would I do that?!" I asked shocked at the thought that someone actually thought this was happening in my classroom.
"Well it seems that a couple of parents have caught onto yours and Natalie's fathers romance." He says narrowing his eyes at me.
"Is that what this is about?" I ask annoyed and scared all at the same time. I grip the arm of the chair as my boss continues.
"Listen, parents are bound to cause drama because they see you involved with her father and they think that you must like her more than others because of this." He says sighing and leaning in a tad bit closer to me.
"Just because I'm involved with him does not mean I'm not teaching or grading unfairly." I say using my hands as I talk.
"The parents are going to continue these complaints until they see that you two have stopped seeing each other outside of school. At least break it off until the school year is over. If we continue to get complaints your job could very well be on the line." He says tapping his pen on his desk.
My eyes go wide as I realize what he's saying. I have to break things off with Grayson to keep my job? I look down at the floor.
"Just keep it on the down low until the school years over is all I'm asking. If the school board finds out about this they'll for sure take your job because it could be seen as unprofessional." He says trying to comfort me so I don't feel sad all day.
I nod as I stand from the seat. He stares at me as I make my way to the door silently.
"Have a good day Miss (y/l/n)." He says with a small smile.
"You too." I say as I step out of the office.
I make me way back to my room quickly so I'll be there when the kids show up.
All the kids stroll in doing the same thing they do every morning. As Grayson drops Natalie off and flashes me a smile I look away and stare straight at the papers on my desk avoiding him.
I don't want to lose my job. Maybe my boss was right, it is unprofessional. I sigh as I gather things to get ready and begin class.
********
The school day went by slower than ever. Natalie and a couple of children were still waiting to be picked up.
Grayson was the next parent to walk in. He smiled at me as I pretended to help one of the others kids with something he didn't even need help with. I pretended to be occupied the whole time he was in the room to avoid speaking to him. I didn't want another parent walking in and seeing me talking to Grayson. I don't need another complaint.
I pack everything up as all the kids were gone. I locked my room behind me and made my way out the front doors.
I walked across the large school parking lot sighing as I held my purse on my shoulder. I was almost to my car when I was greeted by a breathless Grayson.
"What's wrong?" He huffed looking at me with concern. I sighed and looked up at him and then back at the ground as I continued to make my way to my car.
"I don't think I can see you anymore." I said avoiding eye contact. Grayson stopped and grabbed my wrist making me face him.
"What do you mean?" He ask with furrowed eyebrows.
"I could lose my job Grayson." I said almost as a whisper.
"What happened?" He ask as he can tell I didn't feel this way this morning.
"The parents are catching on and they're complaining about us." I say pushing my purse back up on my shoulder because it was falling down because of all of its weight.
"Then that means we just stay quiet about it right?" He asked running his thumb across my cheek.
I grab his hand and take it off of my face. "I don't know Grayson." I say look at the ground. He stands there not sure what to say and I have nothing to say either. I turn and make my way to my car.
I can feel his eyes burning a hole in my back as I hop into my car. I shut the door as he begins to walk to his own. I start up my car with a sigh.
I was half way home before I realized I had been crying. I didn't want to leave Grayson and break things off but this is what was best for now. In about a month and a half the school year will be over and maybe then the timing would be better.
