Chapter III

Lucas

Stupid gel wall. Why is there always a stupid gel wall?

Oh my god, did I seriously just ask that question?

I woke up in a wooden chair facing the wall. And there was nothing else. I'm not kidding. Nothing else. It was creepy.

I soon figured out that the only way out of wherever the hell I was was going through the gel. I found myself hoping I'd be able to breathe, and was relieved when I stepped in and found that I could.

That is, until the fours attacked. Not the Divergent dude. Sorry ladies.

Yeah, I mean the number four. They appeared, and then they shocked me. Over and over again. That was obviously a pleasant experience.

I was having trouble moving forward, and soon I found that I was being pushed back, a force being applied on my chest periodically. Wait a second...

I turned around, and soon the force was pushing me through the gel. The fours continued attacking, shooting me with little bolts of what looked like lightning until by some miracle I finally cleared the gel. Soon after, the force on my chest receded.

I turned, then stopped, amazed by the sight before me. It was like a scene from a movie. Actually, correction: not like a scene, it was a scene.

The Chompers from Galaxy Quest.

Fudge.

Whoever wrote that scene should die. No punniness intended. I racked my brain, trying to ignore the clang of the chompers and focus instead on remembering the sequence. What was it?

Then, I remembered: 2,2,4,2,2,4,2,2,3,2.

I hate the god forsaken world.

I made my way through. TWO! Done. TWO! Done. FOUR! Done. TWO! Done.

It went on like that for who knows how long. When I got to the end, the flames rose intimidatingly and I waited. My heart beat a thousand times a minute, and my breath was shallow from the stress. When the flames receded, I jumped and landed on the other side, thankfully not burned to a crisp.

When I looked up, I noticed a wooden desk a few feet away. It was simple, clean, polished, and elegant. When I got closer, I saw that there was nothing on it but a computer monitor and a keyboard. No mouse.

I sat down in the leather office chair behind it. The screen came to life, blinding me for a moment. When I could actually see, I read the screen and groaned.

Password Required. One Attempt Remaining.

Well screw that.
