Chapter V

Phil

I was drumming my fingers on the coffee table, watching Lucas snore and bored out of my mind when Maddie apparated back into the living room. She smirked, "See, that wasn't so hard, was it?"

I pointed up at my own eyebrows, "You splinched a little..." Her eyes widened and her hand shot up to her forehead. I laughed, "God, you're easy."

Maddie scowled, "You're lucky I don't impale you with my trusty kitchen knife."

"But who would annoy you then?"

She laughed, "I don't know. I guess that position would fall to Ali."

I chuckled, then became serious, "You look... Different."

Maddie held back a laugh, "Different. Perhaps it's the giant scar across my eye, or maybe the elf ears."

I rolled my eyes, "No! It's... Your eyes."

"My eyes?"

"Yeah. They're more..." I searched for an appropriate word, "Fiery."

"Fiery?" She grinned with amusement, "They're a shade brighter. I think the term you're looking for is aqua, but thanks for the effort."

There was a flash, and Ali appeared on top of the coffee table looking disoriented, yet exhilarated, "Bloody hell. That was awesome!"

Maddie winced, "Uh, Al..."

"Yeah?"

"Um..." She pointed up, "Eyebrow."

Ali cursed, her hand flying up to her forehead, "Shit!"

Maddie smiled at me, "See? I'm not the only one."

Ali glared at me, "You're lucky I don't-"

"Impale me with a kitchen knife?" I finish edit, "Evidently, there will be a line for that."

Maddie organized a meeting as soon as everyone managed to apparate into the living room two hours later. Thankfully, there was only one splinch; Carson left half of his unshaved facial hair outside. He promptly shaved the other half before the meeting began.

Of course, Lucas was still snoring in the armchair.

"Alright." Maddie began, "I'm not even gonna bother with explaining how all of this happened. I'm sure you've all figured it out already."

Ida raised her hand, "Actually, I have no idea what's going on..."

"The power ion transfer?" No response, "The host system?" Nada. "The skill inheritance?" Nothing. "Seriously?! Ugh, who cares. Point is, we have powers now."

"No dip, Sherlock." Melanie retaliated, "I'd like to know why you look fine, yet Lucas is still passed out dreaming about lollipops and rainbows."

"I was getting to that." Maddie replied, "That is because Fowl-brain gave him Atlantis Complex."

Artemis nodded, "That would make sense. But wouldn't I give him tolerance for it too?"

Maddie shook her head, "Your condition is obvious, so Lucas knew you had it. What isn't obvious is that you've been treated for it. He doesn't know he has a tolerance for it, so his mind is sending him through its own personal treatment."

"It's not like you've actually been in his mind." George said, "How do you know all this?"

"Look at all the brains I inherited." Maddie answered, "Honestly, the world makes so much more sense now."

Nathan spoke, "So what happens if Lucas can't handle the treatment?"

Maddie laughed, "He's a smart kid. He'll pull through."

"FOUR!" Lucas's eye shot open and he sat straight up, nearly jumping out of the chair.

Maddie smirked, "See?"

Lucas groaned, rubbing his head gingerly, "What happened?"

"You just survived Atlantis Complex." Maddie explained.

"Atlantis who now?"

"You don't wanna know." Artemis said, "Trust me."

I rolled my eyes, "So what now?"

"Now," Maddie clapped her hands together in excitement, "We get to work."

Hey y'all!

Sorry I didn't update at all last week. I was at boot camp on Tuesday and Thursday, and on Saturday I got sidetracked by family in town and Heritage.

Speaking of which, I was in a skybox on the eighteenth green when Kucher made the bunker shot that won the tournament for him! IT WAS AWESOME!
