Chapter VII
Tanner
It was about 10 PM by the time I managed to reroute our system. Apparently leaving a computer with hacking equipment stagnate for a day or two on one system is very bad for the hard drive. Who knew?
I gathered everyone around the screen as I brought up the videos from Bay City, and we were all worried out of our minds when there was absolutely nobody there.
"Did anything get disconnected?" Lucas asked, "Maybe the binoculars don't like sitting around doing nothing."
"I've looked at it." McKenna said, "They're just as I left them."
"We've tried everything, even a complete reroute of the electrical." George added, "It's not them."
"Are you sure the Silva worm didn't get in?" Max questioned, "If it did, we need to relocate ASAP."
"No, I've checked numerous times." I answered, "I've gone over everything. They're not there."
"Where else would they go?" Phil pondered.
"They may be somewhere without cameras. They probably figured out we were hacking them and decided to go underground or off grid."
Cassidy spoke, "What does that mean for us?"
"It means we're blind." I determined, "We need to figure things out quickly."
"None of you got any sleep last night." Maddie said, "I think our best bet is to get a good nights rest. We're no good tired. The war's about to begin. We need to be ready."
"The war started when they attacked us." Blunt corrected, "This isn't the war. This is the final battle."
"And we're gonna beat them to the ground." Melanie added, "Send them to hell, where they belong."
Max nodded, "Get some rest. We'll start up again tomorrow."
As Maddie left the room, I tried to stop her, but she frowned discontentedly, "I have something to take care of. If you need anything, you can call me up later."
As she left, Ida stepped in front of me, "Something's bothering you."
I shook my head, "I'm fine."
"No you're not." She persisted, "I know you. Something is bothering you. What?"
I stared at her, then sighed in defeat, "I took every precaution I know. They shouldn't have known we were in their system."
"You think this has something to do with what Abraham said, don't you?"
"Whoever the traitor is, they're the reason the villains have been one step ahead of us this whole time. They've told them all about us."
Ida's eyes widened when she realized my point, "Which means they know."
"Somebody told them about the powers. They know exactly what we're capable of. They've seen our faces, our characters, and now they know our abilities."
"At least there's one thing they don't know."
I frowned, "What's that?"
She smirked, "Maddie can throw a knife."
