Chapter IX

Cassidy

Who would've guessed that making the wake up alarm sound like a nuclear bomb alert would be a very bad idea? Oh that's right; me.

Guess who screamed bloody murder when the alarm went off at 0800. Everyone.

Guess who was right. Me. Guess who's still bitter about it. Still me. Guess who's never gonna let anybody live it down. You guessed it; moi!

Point being, everyone was awake at 0801... Well... almost everyone.

"Maddie's missing." Phil announced, running into Tanner's surveillance room (AKA the bedroom) at exactly 0803 (yes, I looked at my phone every time something important happened. Problem?).

"Where would she go?" McKenna asked with her usual confused expression, "She's not an idiot. She knows not to go in there alone without any backup."

"But where else could she go?" George countered, "She can't risk going anywhere in the open or close to anyone she cares about that's unaware. It'd be too dangerous."

"I hate to say it..." Ali said, "But you have all officially lost your genius cards." She placed her finger down on the desk, next to a folded piece of paper, "She left a note, Einsteins."

And just as the note had said, Maddie apparated back to the room at exactly 0810 (Ain't Apple time fantastic?). She put on a smirk immediately, "How many of you losers didn't notice the note?"

I was, embarrassingly, one of the fourteen that raised their hands.

Maddie's hair was back in a neat French braid that showed off her scar and pointed ears. She wore a red Nike tank top, the back of which had two slits, through which protruded her wings, which were currently folded nicely on her back. She wore a pair of black athletic shorts and black running shoes, and her hands were covered in black gloves, the kind where the fingertips weren't covered. I'd seen her wear a similar pair at archery practices, though this pair looked different, almost mechanical.

Over her shoulder, she held three full garbage bags that looked like they were about to explode. She plopped them down on the ground, and the clash made Tanner turn away from his monitor with a scowl, "Watch it. That's hardwood."

"Really?" She said matter-of-factly, "I though it was ceramic tile..." She reached down and pushed the bags over, and out spilled a pile of knives, swords, arrows, spears, and probably every other killing machine in existence, "I brought you weapons. Get yours and get dressed. You can praise me later."

A few minutes later, I was changed and ready to go. I wore a black tank top and dark green pants with black combat boots. I pulled my hair up into a messy, but sturdy bun, and even put on a bit of waterproof mascara to please the Effie monster. I had a small dagger concealed in each of my boots, and another one hanging in a sheath on my belt.

Maddie walked up behind me with a smirk, "Nice outfit. You may want these."

She handed me a pair of gloves that seemed almost identical to her's, but a size up to fit my hands. I gave her a look, "Something tells me these are more than just regular gloves."

She nodded, "Try them out."

I slipped the gloves on and looked at them determinedly. I soon discovered that when I moved my hands a certain way, metal claws came out at the top of the palm. Maddie smiled, "They're called Shuke; basically ninja bear claws. I had Leo modernize them. They make it easier to climb trees and such, plus you can rip people's faces off. And it doesn't hurt your fists when you punch them."

"Fantastic."

Then came the vibrations. We felt them at 0819 (*wink wink*), the floor bouncing and sending porcelain vases clattering on their tables. Then, we heard it.

"Stomping." Jordan confirmed, "They found us."

Max glared at Tanner, "You sure about that Silva worm now?"

"Positive." Tanner held firm, "Somebody had to have contacted them."

"That's not a concern for right now." Lucas interrupted, "We need to get out of here."

"The final battle's coming." Amy continued, "We need to go somewhere where we'll have the advantage."

Maddie put her hand out, "Grab on. I know just the place."

Carowinds was fantastic, and of course, I was the only one in a group of 4 to get completely soaked on the Rapids. Including Blaze. Jerk.
