Chapter XV

Makayla

You know how annoying it is when you're stuck fighting an army of things that shouldn't exist with a bunch of teenagers that have absolutely no combat experience? No, of course you don't.

Let me assure you, it's the most annoying shit in the history of annoying shit.

And I've probably heard a dozen cliche villain monologues, so it's made quite an accomplishment.

After I explained to Ida (and everybody else) that it's much easier to kill someone by not yelling "DIE ASSHOLE" every time you're about to stab him (literally for the hundredth time by the way (yes I was counting (Problem?))), I was thanking the universe for people who were capable of the silent kill.

So basically, I was thanking the universe for having me around.

Where was I? Oh yeah, die asshole. I mean come on, it's not even poetic. The least they could do is come up with something original.

Anyways, the ranks went a lot deeper than we thought, especially considering the fact that we thought there were only two ranks... We didn't set the bar very high...

As Maddie was ever so kind as to enchant my pistol to have a never ending supply of bullets, I had miraculously not run out of ammo. Of course, that doesn't mean I wasn't pissed off.

Who am I kidding? I'm always pissed off.

After shooting the creeper that was about to kill her, I tossed Jordan her knife, "You know, it's a lot easier to kill people when you don't warn them."

Make that 101.

"Sorry." She replied sheepishly, "My bad."

"I know." I said. I turned back to the team I was fighting through the ranks with, "Anybody know how many ranks we got left?"

"Three." Ida answered immediately.

"How did you-"

"Awakened senses." She interrupted, "Don't ask."

I thought of a strategy I'd been wanting to use for months, and I turned to Jordan, "How would you feel about joining me on a little experiment?"

"Utterly mortified." She said, "But I don't think you're giving me a choice."

After explaining the plan to Jordan, we each took two backup to each side of the ranks. Cassidy was on my left and Nathan on my right (by the way, should I have been concerned with the death stares he was getting from Jordan?). Jordan took Amy and Phil while the others continued fighting the center ranks.

"Cover me." I explained to my backup, "I'm gonna try to barrel through the ones in front of me and get through the ranks as soon as possible. Your job is to cover me until I've finished the mission. Make sure none of the other creeps gets me when my back is turned."

"Copy that." Cassidy said.

"When do we start?" Nathan asked.

I smirked, "We just did."

With my gun in my right hand and a switchblade in my left, I charged towards the line of guards in front of me. I shot down the first with ease, moving on to the next one quickly as Cassidy and Nathan held off the coming guards. The second creeper ran towards me, and just before he reached me, I jumped, twisting my legs around his neck and yanking him to the ground. I stabbed him in the back, and while I was still on the ground, I shot the third guard.

Once I'd broken through the ranks, I shot down the first figure I saw. Heart stood still and fell to the ground, her tomato red dress already stained the maroon color of blood. She was dead; I shot her right in the heart (now that's what I call poetic justice).

I looked up just in time to see Jordan's dagger lodge itself in Nottingham's back. He fell face first into the mud, and didn't move after that.

The army that surrounded us disappeared into a puff of magical fairy dust (not really, they just disappeared), and I found myself laughing at Cassidy's confused expression as she held her dagger in the air where she was about to stab a creepy-creature.

Melanie smiled, "Well wasn't that just handy-dandy."

I'm going to warn y'all now that I've fallen behind on updates due to testing and not having time to write, so I may not update for a little while, or they'll be very sparatic and on no schedule what so ever. But updates should be back on a regular schedule in the summer when I have more writing time.
