Chapter XXXI

Makayla

"I don't like it." I said almost immediately.

Maddie groaned, "When is someone gonna realize that every single option is gonna be a bad option, and right now it's all about people picking the best bad option? Like Argo! But replace the Ayatollah with DomDaniel. And we're killing him instead of escaping his country."

"I get it, Mad. Stop talking."

She frowned at me, one of those annoying frowns where she's all but certain that she's right and your the only thing standing in her way, "Look, we've got plenty of backup now. We already had Sep and Marcia, and now we've got Silas, Simon, Edd, and Erik. You're welcome, by the way."

I groaned inwardly, but sighed in defeat, "Fine, but it doesn't mean I have to like it."

Carson smirked, "Nobody said you had to. All you gotta do is shoot straight."

I hid in the bushes as Maddie and Carson raised some sort of magykal smoke screen thingy while the characters distracted DomDaniel. With magyk, I think.

Okay, look. I have never read Septimus Heap, nor do I currently plan on reading it. I know absolutely nothing about magyk. Don't judge. Leave me alone. Good day to you sir.

So when the smoke screen was up, Maddie and Carson left to help the characters. I checked my pistol for ammo, then remembered that it was enchanted to never run out. Yay.

The fight was actually slightly entertaining. Even though I had absolutely no idea what they were doing, it was fun watching people's reactions when somebody threw some type of magyk at someone else. It was hilarious.

Okay, maybe I actually did like Maddie's plan and enjoyed giving her a hard time. Is that so wrong? She does technically work for me, informant and all.

Speaking of which, I've been meaning to ask her where she gets her information. I'm extremely curious actually...

... Should I be worried?

Carson yelled something indistinguishable from where I was. A blast of purple exploded from his hand and slammed into DomDaniel's stomach. He doubled over, clutching his stomach and trying to send darke spells at the others while Maddie attempted to keep him at bay with some other weird spell.

And then, everything was on fire. Or should I say fyre.

Have I mentioned how overly adorable Spitfyre is? No? Well he is extremely cute. And deadly. My favorite combination. Cute, deadly dragon. Ah, the splendid entertainment.

Spirfyre's sudden appearance was just the distraction Maddie was hoping for. She looked over towards me, and even though I knew she couldn't be, it seemed as if she was staring straight at me. Then she opened her mouth and screamed.

"PANCAKES!"

Top rule of missions: Never, ever, yell 'go'. Always use a code word.

Although I probably could've come up with something better than pancakes... Ah well. Live and learn.

I stood up and let loose a single bullet that traveled straight at DomDaniel's head. He died instantly.

Just another incredible story of me and my spectacular marksmanship. You may now applaud.
