Chapter 6

As soon as they got in the TARDIS, Martha yelled at them.

"And where the hell have you been?!"

Genie was a little annoyed by this. "Where have we been?" Genie calmed herself down and smiled. "Oh, you know, saving your life."

"Saving my life? I almost got killed in here!"

"You two, stop bickering," interrupted the Doctor. "How did you almost get killed in here?"

"I don't know! I was sitting in your chair and the next thing you know, this sphere- a talking sphere- comes out and starts throwing really sharp things at me! It scared the hell out of me!"

"Talking spheres, you say?" asked Genie.

"Yes, and I'm not mad."

"I know," Genie replied. "The Toclafane," she murmured.

"The what?" the Doctor and Martha said in unison.

"Nothing." Genie had to keep this a secret. She could tell them when the time came, but foreknowledge is dangerous, so she couldn't now.

"So where to next?" asked the Doctor. "And, this time, leave the driving to me."

Genie scoffed. "It wasn't complete my fault."

"Sure."

"Um..." Genie thought about where they had gone next in Doctor Who. "Let's go recharge the TARDIS. You know where, Doctor!" She was going to meet Captain Jack Harkness!

"Ah, yes." He was reminiscing. "Went there with Rose in my 9th form," he whispered to Genie.

"Tenth."

"He doesn't count."

Martha intervened. "What are you two talking about?"

"Nothing," Genie and the Doctor both said.

"Seriously! You two have been so secretive! Come on, tell me."

"Someone's jealous," murmured Genie, which got her a glare from Martha and a confused look from the Doctor.

"It's-it's nothing. I promise," said the Doctor.

"Rule number 1, the Doctor lies," said Genie.

"Not helping," asked the Doctor.

"Whatever," Martha said resignedly.

"To Cardiff!" exclaimed Genie.

"To Cardiff!" repeated the Doctor, pulling the lever in front of him.

The TARDIS shook and whooshed and soon enough, they landed.

"So this is Cardiff?" asked Martha.

"Yeah. Have you never been to Cardiff?" asked the Doctor.

"Never... But there's a first time for everything!" she replied sarcastically.

"Well..." Genie patiently waited. She sat down on the side of the Doctor's awkward triple-chair beside Martha. The Doctor was looking at the monitor, waiting for the TARDIS to charge. Genie watched him intently, waiting for him to pull up the monitor.

Martha noticed. "You know what's gonna happen, don't you?"

"Well, yes," replied Genie.

"How? How do you know all this stuff about the TARDIS and the Doctor and time and space?"

"I can't tell you."

"Well, tell me what happens in my future. Can you do that?"

"I can, but I can't."

"Why not?"

Genie pursed her lips. "Foreknowledge is dangerous."

"Come on! At least-"

"It's not pretty," she interrupted. "Your future-your near future-it's scary. You'll become a soldier and save the Doctor and the world. But I've already said too much."

"Oh. How near?"

"Very." Genie looked up. The Doctot looked confused. She got up abruptly and ran over. "Captain Jack Harkness." She smiled.

"How do you know him?" asked the Doctor. He pulled the zig-zag plotter.

"Timey wimey."

"Oh, shut it."

The TARDIS was an earthquake as they took off. Genie knew she was headed into danger. She was in this till the end.
