Chapter 11

I had been out for maybe 5 hours. Maybe more. I just knew that a lot had happened. I was still trying to wake up. I could hear, but I couldn't say anything.

"What, exactly, did she say again?" the Doctor was asking.

"I think it was... I can't do anything? Something like that," replied Jack. He sounded frustrated.

I tried to open my eyes. The weight was unbearable; I gave up. I groaned, and Martha was next to me almost immediately. She was training to be a doctor. I was just about to try to wake up again when the Doctor's fist pounded on the table. That made me alert. My eyes opened in a snap.

"My TARDIS! I can't believe it!" he was yelling. I realized where I was. Well, when I was, I guess.

"Wait," I said groggily. "What's happened?"

"Well, good old Professor Yana turned out to be the Master, a Time Lord like the Doctor," Jack explained. "He killed Chan Tho and took off with the Doctor's TARDIS. Oh, and he regenerated. Into Harold Saxon."

"You knew?" asked Martha in a hushed tone.

"Yes, b-"

"You knew and you didn't even tell me?" The Doctor was yelling at me now. "You knew and you just- you just let it happen? We could have stopped this!"

"No, Doctor-"

"I don't care if you've seen it, time can be rewritten!"

"Doctor, stop, she just came out of unconsciousness," whispered Jack.

Martha shifted uncomfortably next to me.

"Doctor... Are you finished?" I whispered.

He looked at me with sad, old eyes.

"Yes- time can be rewritten. But... Not if you know it's going to happen."

He already knew this, and I could see him crumbling on the inside. He walked over and sat down slowly on the bucket next to me.

"Can I talk to Genie... Alone?" he asked.

Martha and Jack nodded.

Once they both had left the room I had time to take in my surroundings. I was in Martha's room on her bed. Maybe I had been out for a lot more than five hours...

After the Doctor fixed my pillows so that I could sit up, he then sat on the edge of the bed. He started at me for a while in confusion, and I stared back.

Finally, in his adorable voice, he said, "I'm sorry."

"It's fine, Doctor, I know how much you love the TA-"

"It's no excuse," he cut me off. You have been nothing but helpful along this journey, and what have I done? I've pushed you away and yelled at you. That would be me..." He trailed off and stopped talking for a few seconds. When he started talking again, he was sad. "Genie, a few years ago, I had a companion. Her name was-"

"Rose Tyler." I couldn't help myself. I just blurted out her name.

He stopped abruptly. "How?" was all he could say.

"I know more about your past than you know," was all I could say.

"How much... About Rose?"

"Well..." I trailed off. I knew this was a touchy subject. "I know that you met her in your ninth form, or tenth if you count the war doctor, and traveled for a long time. Maybe a year or two? And then she absorbed the time vortex trying to save you from the daleks, succeeded, but almost died. She also brought Jack back to life, made him immortal, and killed the Emperor Dalek. You then... Kissed her to save her... And regenerated. She forgot it. You traveled for a year or two more, and then... The army of ghosts came. The Cybermen. You ended up having to leave her in a parallel universe." A single tear streamed down my face. "You didn't even get to say that you loved her. I'm- I'm so sorry. So, so sorry." I felt two more hot tears roll down my cheeks, and realized that I needed a hug. I looked up at the Doctor and noticed that he needed one as we'll. I hugged him and, after a few seconds, he hugged me back.
