Chapter 8

When they reached the Fences, the Doctor flashed his psychic paper. Psychic paper! She was so amazed at all the things that she once thought were fake, even though she had already witnessed so much.

"We don't care, sir. We just need to check your teeth," the guard told the Doctor.

"Our teeth?" asked Martha, confused.

"Well," said Genie, stepping forward. "They wouldn't be too good, but I got braces 4 years ago." She grinned at the guard.

"She's fine." They waved her through. The Doctor, Martha, and Jack repeated her steps.

"What was that about?" asked Jack.

Oh, God. This was her chance to impress him. She wasn't very scientific though... Big words, she told herself. Big words. She had way too big of a crush on him.

"Well, you see, we are currently at the evacuation site of Earth. There aren't many people left because of the mutations. They were once human, but they now have sharp teeth, so that's why they checked our teeth."

Wow. She definitely failed on the whole "big words" thing, but she thought his face showed surprise.

"What, can you tell the future?" he said.

"Yes," she replied, deadpan. "Yes, I can."

Jack looked at her funny before they proceeded toward the evacuation rocket.

When they reached the evacuation rocket, they had to climb the stairs around it. Genie rushed up to be in front of the pack, but Jack caught her arm.

"Before we do all this, I need to know who you two are."

"All right," said Genie. "This is Martha Jones. She was walking to work when she first saw the Doctor. She's training to be a doctor. The Doctor checked into the hospital she was training at to investigate strange goings-on. It turned out there was an outlaw alien disguised as an old lady that was running from the Judoon. The Judoon had no jurisdiction on Earth, so they brought it to the moon. The alien needed more protection. She drank humans blood through a straw so the Judoon scanners wouldn't register her as alien. She was going to kill everyone using gamma radiation, but the Doctor was too clever." She clicked her mouth, cocked her head, and winked like the Doctor. "Made her think she was human instead of Time Lord. Quite the actor. She drank his blood and she registered as alien. Martha saved the Doctor and he stopped the gamma radiation. The Judoon finally put the hospital back on Earth. It was a good thing, too, because they were running out of air."

"How do you know that?" asked Martha.

"Same way I know your futures," she replied.

"Wait. You know our futures?" asked Jack.

Genie looked down. They weren't even half-way up the stairs. This conversation was a waste of time. Why couldn't she be a normal companion?

"And you haven't said who you are," added Jack.

"I'll tell you in there," she pointed to the rocket.

"Fine," said Jack, and they trudged up the stairs. Genie couldn't help but think that they were approaching more pain and hurt for the Doctor, Martha, and Jack. Maybe even herself.
