Anna and I weave through the quiet streets on the way back to my house. She seems intent on talking about how Theo James is hotter than Ansel Elgort, while all I want to talk about is the new guy at our school. We turn onto Oak Road. Anna and I both spot my big gray house at the same time, so she stops talking and I stop thinking about the super-cute guy.
We walk lightly on the gray brick pathway that leads to my front door. I slip my key into the lock, turn the handle and push the door open. Anna closes the door after her and sets her purple backpack down in the foyer. She follows me up the stairs to my room and I shut my bedroom door softly behind her. I sit down on my floral bedspread, letting the mint green walls surround me.
"So, what do you think of the new guy?" I ask her. Her eyes twinkle.
"He is super cute!" She looks down at her bare feet, smirking.
"Do you know anything else about him?" She looks up and grins at me.
"Well, I heard from somebody in 4th period that his name is Jack Simpson and that he came from Canada." I smile at her and she winks.
"Lets go get some food"
I get up from my bed, open the door and walk down the stairs with Anna following close behind me. I open the fridge and pull out two oranges, some strawberries and two Arizona green teas. Anna cuts up the strawberries while I cut the oranges. Once we're done we walk outside and sit in the chairs on my sunny patio.
We chat and giggle as we eat our fruit. I'm about to ask her how her mom is doing when a tank rolls into the driveway!
"What the hell?" I say as I dash to the front door. I run out and stand beside it, waiting for a sign of movement. To my surprise, the man that steps out of it isn't my dad. Confused I take a few steps back. Finally, I see a familiar smile.
"Dad!" I squeal as he lands on the brick driveway. He pulls me into a tight hug.
"Oh Liv, I missed you so much." He kisses me on the forehead. I smile at him. He had been away with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan for 6 months. There wasn't a day while he was gone that I never felt worried that something might happen to him.
"So, uh, what's with the tank?" I ask. He chuckles.
"Well, I knew that I hadn't said when I was coming home, so I thought that this would be a nice surprise for you, your brother, and your mom. Speaking of which, where are they anyway?" He asks. I rack my brain.
"Cam is over at a friend's house and mom is still at work." He looks disappointed at the news.
"Okay, which friend? Where do they live? I'll take the tank by and surprise him to. As for your mother, eh she probably doesn't need the big entrance." He smiles at me.
"He's with his friend Mitchell who lives on Davie Road." I tell him.
"Oh ok, I know where that is! I have to go now, but I'll be back for dinner, and remember, don't tell your mom about this! I want her to be surprised!" He yells over his shoulder as he climbs back into the tank. I wave a goodbye as the tank turns the corner. I laugh to myself.
"A tank, who would've thought?" I smile and turn back towards the house.

Over dinner we tell my dad what he missed while he was away; which celebrities got together or broke up, who died, crappy new music and which celebrities are being dissed (and of course some of what happened in our lives!) After I finish my pasta and salad I head upstairs to my room. I change out of my clothes and into my robe. I walk into the bathroom to have a shower. I set the water to hot and step in. The water is warm on my skin. I wash my hair with my Moroccan Oil shampoo and clean my body with my favorite body wash from Bath and Body Works; Pink Chiffon. Once I finish in the shower, I twist my hair into a towel, throw on my robe and tiptoe back to my room. At my vanity I use some moisturizer on my skin then I change into my macaron printed pajama shorts from Forever 21 and a white tank top. I yell a goodnight to my family before I jump into bed with my laptop.
