Frisk's POV
Things were going great. Sans would take Papyrus and I out on walks during the week and even mess with Papy. He was moderately calm anymore, very controlled... For the first few days of this, I was terrified. What was with the sudden change? Was he gonna blow up on me for when I teased him? It was weeks ago at that point and if he was waiting to blow up then I was dead where I stood
At some point, I took the time to sit and think things out. I wasn't quite sure where everything was going from there but I would have to figure it out. I remembered Sans being so worried about being unable to protect Papyrus and even though that was complete horse shit, I still felt bad... One day I brought it up to him.
He was in the kitchen, looking for ketchup no doubt, and I was in the doorway. He hadn't been able to find ketchup or cigarettes for a while now... He just hadn't looked hard enough. I was going to surprise him with them at some point.
He glanced over and raised an eyebrow. "Whaddya need dove?"
"Dove eh? That'sa new one" I said, pushing myself off the wall and over to him, leaning on the kitchen island.
He sighed and stood up, closing the fridge. "Come to bug me eh?
"Am I bugging you?" I asked, tilting my head.
He instantly changed his tone. "Ah- no I just...." He sighed. "What do you need?"
I chuckled softly. He was so much fun to tease. The old Sans would have been able to one-up me. Tease me back. Perhaps Gaster wasn't very good at jokes? Either way I was glad I had the upper hand. I smiled and pulled myself onto the island.
"Are you still worried about being unable to protect Papyrus?" I asked plainly.
He furrowed his.... Brow, bones? "Where's this coming from?"
"Answer the question bone boy" I smirked.
He leaned back against the fridge and crossed his arms, suddenly interested. "I have my doubts... Why?"
"I can help you" I stated.
He chuckled. "Oh please... How you plan to do that?"
"Before you knew who I was, you were going to use me for training purposes, yeah?"
"Yeah but that was before I knew.."
"What's to stop you now?"
". . . . I don't wanna hurt you Frisk..."
I scoffed. "Oh please... Don't play stupid with me. I can take a few hits... quite a few.."
He stepped closer and his hand slammed down on the counter beside me. Fuck I'd triggered his bipolarness....
"What if you don't come back when I kill you this time? Huh? I'd have to live with that guilt forever and I already have enough guilt on my plate.." He growled.
I didn't really want to speak. I kind of just wanted to leave it be.... But my determination to get it through to him that he didn't have to kill me in training wouldn't allow it. So gulping down my fear, I pressed my nose to the bridge of his, eyes stern.
"You don't have to bring it as far as death.. I can get you stronger.. Get that through your thick, skull." I growled back.
He seemed to freeze, staring at me the way he does. I was more than willing to win this staring contest. And then... He he laughed. It was a pure laugh. A genuine one. It was something I hadn't heard since I'd freed the monsters so long ago.
It made me blush a bit. It was such a beautiful thing to hear and if you were blessed enough to hear it then you'd know what I meant. I was confused though. Why was he laughing...? What was funny? I couldn't put my finger on it for the life of me until it hit me in the head like a spitball.
The fucking pun...
I sighed. "Yeah yeah... real funny." Whatever. I'd try again later. I pushed myself off the counter and headed for the the upstairs again.
"Hey.... HahaHey! Wait!" He called after me, but I ignored. I couldn't handle his childish behavior right now.
But then... He grabbed my wrist and spun me around to him. I tripped on his foot and winced, bracing myself for the floor's hard embrace but was stopped abruptly, by an arm.... A bony arm... around my waist. I opened one eye to see him, his face back to that stiff, miserable look he'd always had, lifting me back onto my feet. I thought I'd gotten through to him...
"What where ya goin' sweet cheeks... And uh... Listen when I tell you to wait.." He said, letting me go.
I huffed. He needs to chill.. I thought, crossing my arms. Might as well hear what he had to say...
"Alright fine, I'll let you help me train.... But I need a while to get my thoughts straightened out alright...?" He explained, offering out his hand.
I smirked, and placed my middle three fingers through the hole in his hand, shaking it. "Alright, deal."
He turned a vibrant shade of yellow and his eyes grew wide, pulling his hand away. It was my turn to chuckle. What was that all about? Did he have some sort of weird turn on? If that were the case then I had a new sense of teasing.
"Anyway, I'm gonna head out for a new jacket, I'll be right back."
I was surprised he okayed such a thing, he was so uptight about going out on my own. Then again though I wasn't his brother. I didn't need a new jacket, but that wasn't what I was going to get anyway... Needed to keep myself busy anyway
What better way than to go searching for ketchup and cigarettes?
