Donna paced the floor anxiously. Marley had done her hair and her makeup and they were just waiting for Boden to arrive now. She clutched the flowers that Marley had handed her.
"He's on his way! Five minutes!" Cindy called, smiling at the pair. Marley grinned, where Donna's face dropped. Marley noticed this quickly. "Not getting cold feet are you Don?" Marley asked, and Donna half heartedly laughed.
"I'm just nervous. This is a big deal. At my age, it's likely that I'll be married to him until either of us dies, and I don't mind that, but what if he changes his mind? I don't want him to feel trapped with me."
"Donna, listen, Chief Boden loves you. There isn't an inch of me that doubts that. The way he looks at you, it's like you're the thing that lights up his world, you're the reason he is safe during calls, it's like nothing else matters when you're around other than you. It's the same way Herrmann looks at Cindy, it's meant to be. You two belong together."
The pep talk worked, and the ceremony was beautiful. Everyone, including Marley, got changed afterwards as they were still on call. They held the reception by the trucks. Everyone was having a good time, dancing, eating, drinking. Everyone apart from Shay. She was sat alone, miserably hanging her head down, glancing over at Marley every now and again who seemed to be mirroring her image. Eventually, Marley got fed up of being silent and walked over to Shay.
"I'm sorry!" They both said at the same time. And in that moment, they both knew they were forgiven.
Boden came to the microphone and thanked everyone for coming. Afterwards, he ordered that everyone slow dance with someone they love. Immediately, Marley thought of Kelly, but her heart sank slightly when she saw him quickly go to Shay, not even offering Marley a glance. Her next thought was Herrmann, but he would be dancing with Cindy. Mills had himself a date that was really pretty so she wouldn't expect him to ditch her for her. She saw all the couples and couldn't help but look down in sadness. Boden and Donna. Kelly and Shay. Herrmann and Cindy. Peter and his hot date. Matt and Gabby. The list went on. She tilted her head down, trying to avoid eye contact with everyone. She was the only person without someone. Quickly, she felt a presence in front of her. She glanced up, to see Christopher smirking at her.
"What? You think your ol' Herrmann forgot about you?" She grinned up at him and he smiled back at her, pulling her to her feet and beginning to dance slowly with her.
"You know, for someone who was a cheerleader, you're an awkward dancer." He whispered in her ear, and she laughed loudly, nodding in agreement.
"That's why I was the one they threw around all the time. I just had to be able to flip a few times." She whispered back, making him laugh.
"Look, I know you're probably sick of people saying this to you, but I really am so proud of you. You've overcome so much, and after everything you've been through in your life, you can still walk around with a smile on that beautiful face." He said softly, and she smiled again.
"Thank you, Chris."
"If my kids turn out half the person you are, then we've done a hell of a good job." This made Marley's heart swell.
"That means so much to me, your kids will be ten times the person I am though." She stated. Herrmann raised an eyebrow.
"Why's that?" They were interrupted by the alarm tones blaring. Everyone quickly parted and Herrmann shouted across to Marley whilst they were getting in.
"You never answered me!" Marley grinned as she rolled the window down.
"Because they have you as a dad." Was all she said before the trucks rolled, and Herrmann couldn't hide the smile off his face.
Marley pleaded with Boden to let her in with Gabby and Shay, as they all stood before him with childish grins on their faces. He rolled his eyes, smirking, and agreed. Marley followed behind them, observing as they worked on him. Gabby gestured for her to sit by the medical bag whilst she and Shay worked on him, so she could hand them equipment when they needed it.
What happened next happened so quickly.
It was like the world shook. The beam that was holding the ceiling fell on Gabby and Shay, and both of them crumbled to the ground. A large chunk of the ceiling collapsed and fell on Marley. The world went black for a while. The air was heavy, making it difficult to breath and Marley could see orange and smell smoke. She came to her senses fairly quickly and pushed the rubble off her, coughing as she did. She felt a searing pain in her left arm and her head was dripping blood. She ignored it, and sat up, glancing around. As soon as she spotted the figures on the floor she sprinted to them. She reached Gabby first, and tried to find her pulse, only to feel nothing. And she did the same with Shay, but again, there was nothing. She swore out-loud. She knew whoever she started CPR on first would have a greater chance of surivival. She quickly wiped the tears, and began chest compressions on Gabby.
After 6 minutes, Gabby inhaled deeply, and Marley wasted no time in going over to Shay to start CPR on her. She was at it for around 9 minutes until she heart the familiar "call out", and yelled out for help. Her arm was hurting badly now, and her head was pounding and gushing blood. But she ignored it. If Shay didn't survive, it would be her fault. Immediately after coming into view, Mouch, Casey, Kelly and Cruz all grabbed Shay and carried her out, whilst Marley sat in shock. Capp, Clarke and Otis all went to Gabby.
"She was gone too. I had to do CPR on her. That's why I couldn't start on Shay. I had to save them both!" She cried, gasping for breath. She felt arms around her trying to calm her down. She watched as they lifted Gabby and carried her out.
"This is all my fault." She repeated, crying hysterically.
She suddenly felt dizzy with pain. She'd lost a lot of blood and hadn't even began to think of her injuries. She could be dying to. She glanced back, seeing Herrmann's face come into view as he lifted her up.
"I'm dying. I'm dying. I don't want to die." were the last words to leave her mouth.
Then everything went black.
