I closed my eyes and braced for the impact.
Holding onto Hunter for dear life, quite literally.
It never came.
The vest however was still bleeping, maybe I'd counted down too fast, any second now and it will all be over, all the stress and all the worry. My brain would be free and maybe I'd be able to find peace.
Like I said, maybe.
"Nothing happened," Hunter broke me out of my trance, "nothing fucking happened." He was up on his feet pulling me to stand shaking me ever so slightly, "Tia open your eyes."
I couldn't do it. If I did I'd get my hopes up.
"Do you think this is my dad? Maybe he's watching over us? Or maybe it did happen it was just over so quick we didn't feel anything. Holy shit are we ghosts?" I could hear him frantically patting himself, I didn't dare mirror his actions just in case I set the bloody thing off.
He had a point though. We're we ghosts? I opened one eye slightly and snuck a glance at the timer on the vest...
00:00
The bleeping had stopped.
Hunter's conspiracy theory completely mind fucked me. Why on earth are we still alive? Or maybe Nathan hadn't triggered it, but he wouldn't do that, there's no way he'd spare me. So the only other option was it had happened, and somehow we didn't feel a god damn thing.
Maybe that's what happens when you die, maybe you forget all the pain caused by your death.
I had an idea. "Run into that wall over there," I pointed over the far wall.
"What the fuck why?"
"Because if we're ghosts we'll be able to run right through them right?" He thought about it for a moment before nodding.
"Good point," he stood back and made a few stretches preparing himself for the run, he stopped and turned back to face me. "Hold on why do the fuck do I have to do it?"
I rolled my eyes. "Because say you do just smash right into the wall, that means we're alive, so it'll hurt a like a lot. And in all fairness I haven't really eaten or drank these past few days so I'm a little weaker than you."
He nodded, "fair one." He couldn't argue with that.
Hunter resumed his position as he got ready to make a run for it. My eyes widened as I realised we were still cuffed together, if he makes a run for it my body is following suit.
"Actually I don't think this is a great idea."
"Why? You suggested it in the first place." He followed my line of vision and smirked. "Ohh that."
